    Default ectopic pregnany

Has anyone ever had a a ectopic pregnancy scare? I was told it is very rare and the symptom I have, stomach pains, can be common in normal pg. They were gonna keep me in hospital when I was advised to go the er by nhs 24/7 last night, they took loads of blood, samples, and did belly exame and down below, they told me it could be a urine infection, but they wanted to keep me in till they could do a scan today, then they said it was okay for me to go home but to come in on wednesday for a scan to comfirm everything is okay. They are sitting on the fence by the looks of it weather it is ectopic or not?

I have looked up on some info about ectopics on the net and its not good, I would have to go for surgery, which would be terrifing and it also said its life threatening???? anyone know if this is true?

I really want it to jst be a urnine infection or normal crampy pain.

The hospital was an absolute nigtmare, I was there for hours mainly in a wee room, they had three docs and a nurse tend to me, the first one being completely incopetant and when he couldn't get blood from the arm that I had blood taken form only 2 days previously he told me I may have internal bleeding, telling me this while I was in a state at the pain in my arm was not good, the next guy told me it could be ectopic and they werre gonna keep me in, then left me they never told me what it ment what wa gonna happen nothing!

So I now have to wait till wesneday to have my scan- itsd feeling like an eternity already!"

amounst all this nonsense I had my first bout of morning sickness this mornign and it weas not fun!

sorry for ranting girls but help would be appricitated.

    Hi Mimi,

My last pg was ectopic, so i know how you are feeling, ignore what most of the docs say cos they really haven't got a clue, they couldn't get blood from me either and i had to get it taken every 48 hours, it really depends who is taking it ( don't let a doctor - they are notoriously crap at it!)

It doesn't necessarily mean surgery, i had injections to stop mine, its not pleaseant but better than surgery any day.

If you need to talk, just e-mail me carriepearson@hotmail.com or want to know what might happen i can give you my past experience if that would help.

Right, well, firstly - calm down. I'm a student nurse and I also have PCOS (been tild I'll never have my own children), so I kinda understand your fears. A little information is a dangeroius thing - if you're having pains or anything go and phone NHS 24 or go to your GP at 9am or A&E and explain your symptoms. You will be fine, just relax and dont get freaked out by what you read online. Not all doctors are incompetent or unsympathetic...

    Thnaks carrie!

was your pain consistant, or was itr more like a period cramp? I am having pain in my back when the pain comes, its kind of intermitant and is not there this morning, and v little yesterday. Just bad morning sickness. surely if it is ectopic the pain would be really bad? I ahve had this pain for about 3 -4 weeks even before I knew I was pg! I am about 5 weeks pg. Does this sound fimiliar? I ahve heard also the jag they give you is quite dangerous and can cause the tube to burst anyway and kill you? I am pretty scared!

I am gonna go on the basis that everything is okay till I have my scan wed.

    Hi Mate,

I had intermitent pain mainly in the night, was a funny pain mix of stabbing and crampy pain and was in my left tube therefore was right at the top of my left leg in the crease but also felt like it was in my back. Because it was a bit crampy i couldn't really tell exactly where it was coming from.

Ectopics can be very very serious, if left they can rupture your fallobian tube and can be fatal. However this is very rare. I had a chemotherepy type injection called methotrixate or something similar ( had to have 2 lots cos first didn't work very well) which dissolves the growing tissue. this meant i had no damage to my tubes and didn't need surgery but made me very sick. Other treatment are surgery which sometimes means removing the tube.

So thats what I now about ectopics, but saying that it does not mean that that's what you have. It rook them a while to find our what was actually wrong with me - I had to actually insist that it could be an ectopic because they told me i had m/c and wanted to send me home, which could have been disasterous.

t really could be any number of things, the only thing to do is wait for the scan and see what they say.

But good luck and i hope everything turns out ok

I just wanted to echo what Carrie has said...there's nothing you can do only wait for the scan. I had an ectopic scare and experienced the same sort of symptoms as carrie described...my pregnancy wasn't ectopic. What I'm getting at is there is no standard you can measure what your experiencing by. Have the blood tests, have the scan and wait... Sorry that you are going through this. If the pain gets worse (lots of very sharp pain) then go to A&E. Nothing you can do but wait girl.... Sorry.

I'll be praying that it all works out OK for you.

thanks for all the support girls - it means a lot!xxx

Well, Today I went for my scan and thank god that baby is in the right place, they are still unsure what was causing the pain, but as I have no bleeding and a trace of yeast they think it might just be a yeats infection so got a thrush treatment to try.

This I can tell you has been the worst week ever and the best all rolled into one! My emotions were thrown upsiude down - more than once!

Frsit I was internally bleeding then they were keeping me in over xmas then it was ectopic, but low and behold, everything is cool, the baby is fine and they even saw the babies heart beat in its little sack!!!!

So thankfully I can now get on with being excited about ti all rather than worried!

thanks again girls for the support.

Oh Mimi....I'm delighted. I know how stressful this situation is! You must feel fantastic now. Enjoy your pregnancy, take it easy and enjoy the magic. Don't worry about the pain you have...it's probably just everything stretching.

Take care of you and your little one.
