Thread: Does Aldactone treat Cystic Acne??

  1. #1

Question Does Aldactone treat Cystic Acne??

I have done research and have not found anywhere that Aldactone is used to treat acne. I do not have health insurance and I am going the route of taking meds and just want to make the right decision. Anyone with any suggestions or advice I would greatly appreciate it.

It has worked extremely well for me, along with a bcp (Diane-35...in Canada).

I have cystic acne and have taken birth control pills for years to keep it undercontrol. As long as I took "the pill" my skin was perfect. I'm 32 and I've had my tubes tied and I'm ready to get off "the pill" for good. Concerned about my skin I consulted my Dermatologist today completely prepared to take accutane and take on all its possible side effects. I was relieved when he prescribed Aldactone or Spironolactone as it's also called. It helps with hormonal flare ups. I hope it works. I'll keep you posted.

Spironolactone is what my doctor put me on. I have had horrible cystic acne for years now and nothing ever worked, including everything over the counter I could try. Proactive failed, as did every other advertised treatment. Ive been on this medication for 2 1/2 weeks now, and my face is clearer than its ever been. i still have some redness and one small cyst on my face, but its clearer. I really didnt think that it was that expensive without insurace. My copay on it was only $5 so it has to be a pretty cheap medication normally. My doctor also put me on Solodyn to help clear my face and that is $500 a month without insurace...but Id look into Spironolocatone if possible..I love it.
