    Smile Newbie here!

    Hi everyone!

I just got my "official" diagnosis today, but I've suspected I've had PCOS for quite awhile. I've been lurking on the boards for awhile, too... what a wealth of support and information!!

My DH and I have been TTC for a loooonnnggg time, and we finally sought the help of our RE. Wish we'd have done it sooner! I was diagnosed as hypothyroid many years ago, but I've never been able to lose weight despite having "normal" thyroid levels. Learning that PCOS and insulin resistance is also part of my picture makes so much sense... I can't believe my doctors never looked into it before. So while on one hand, I'm a little nervous about the journey I'm about to begin, I'm also excited to have the possibility of finding answers, and good health. And the blessing of having a child - well, let's just say that I really have believed it could never happen. However, after learning about PCOS and talking with our RE, I'm cautiously optimistic... which is far more positive than I've felt in a long time!!

I took my first dose of Metformin tonight... and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the side effects won't be too bad. We'll see how it goes and take things one step at a time.

Looking forward to all the great support that I know I'll find here!!

First of all WELCOME, and hello from a fellow Wisconsinite!

What course of action is your RE going to do? The metformin is good start. What doseage are you on? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the Metformin plays nice with you and doesn't give you too many of those awful side effects (been there!).

    Good luck to you...babydust!

Welcome to SoulCysters, I'm sure you will find alot of useful info. here (I know I have) and I've made some great friends here as well, Don't give up hope on having a baby (easier said than done) I'm still going through that, but I know one day I will have my "miracle". Metformin has been ok for me although I've had a few side effects but nothing I couldn't deal with. Good Luck to you and if you ever want to talk, just send me a message

    TONS OF BABYDUST to you

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

So, it's day two of 500 mgs of metformin, and so far, so good... knock on wood! I've had a few moments of upset stomach, but not nearly as bad as I'd feared. I've been super careful about what I've been eating. I swear, I feel a little bit more energetic already... although I may be imagining things, since I doubt the met would make that big of a difference already.

As far as the course of action that our doctor wants to pursue, she wants me to try met for a little while on it's own. We'll go back to see her in June, and if we're not pregnant yet at that time (and I'm not gonna hold my breath... but who knows?) we'll add clomid to the mix. She really thinks I'll ovulate with met alone. I've had 32-45 day cycles, and she thinks that they'll become more regular, but since my husband's got a little bit low motility in his sperm, she thinks clomid would help increase our odds. We'll look into IUI at that time as well.

Meanwhile I'm ready to work toward getting my health under control. I am so excited about the possiblity of losing some weight. I've always exercised, but usually it doesn't do much good as far as weight loss goes. Also, if getting PCOS under control does anything for this awful acne... that'll be great too. I've always felt like there was something not quite right with my body and metabolism over the past 7-8 years, and while I'm not thrilled about the answer being PCOS, I am relieved to at least finally have an answer.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!! You ladies are great!!!

Welcome! I'm so glad you've found us. I know what its like to know that there is something wrong, but you just can't pinpoint it. It sounds like you have very good chances of conceiving with your current plan. Good luck and baby dust to you!
