Thread: Byetta?

    Default Byetta?

A friend of mine is part of a research study to see whether Byetta helps with PCOS. Has anyone else heard of this drug (it's another Diabetes drug)? www.byetta.com.

I read about it in the New York Times last week. It sounds promising in terms of weight loss for sure, but it also sounds as if it will be quite expensive and, of course, will require twice-daily injections, which I'm not to keen on. It's interesting that it is also being tested for PCOS. I'm always in favor of more treatment options!

She's already seeing great results from it, so my fingers are crossed! Hopefully, they'll find a way to make it oral, too.

My endo recommended this drug to me, but only after I'm done having babies. She said her diabetic patients are having great results and are losing a ton of weight. I was surprised because she is usually pretty conservative with drug therapy and I know that this one is new. BTW, I'm not diabetic, just insulin resistant.

I'm thrilled, though, that its effectiveness is being considered for PCOS patients. That's really great news.

SarahJ, why would she give it only *after* you're done with babies? Does it cause birth defects?
Whoa! bfp 11/22/08. A YAZ "reset" baby!
    • allergy shots 2 yr
    • Soma sleep apnea pillow--yeah it works, but it wears out after a year

No, I think she just said that since I told her I'm actively ttc and was successful conceiving only on met previously. -- she said its "just to be careful".

I'm not diabetic, so the only reason I'd be taking it is to help with IR and for help controlling my weight.

My dr. also recommended this to me as well because I had sooo many problems with met. I go back in a couple of weeks to really discuss it over with him, after all my latest blood work is in. Is anyone currently on it right now? When he told me that it was an injectible, I was like no, I'd rather have diarrhea all day long on met., LOL, but then he said the weight loss with patients was huge, so then I was like, ok, tell me more, lol. Anyway, I just went to the website for it and it kinda scares me. So, if you have taken it or are currently, please let me know. Thanks a million!

I don't need a weight loss thing, particularly, (well, I do, but it's not my #1 concern) but am trying to O. Met put me into the 10th dimension of hell with no sign of O in sight. Also trying to allieviate other PCOS gems--hairloss, acne, etc

Could you ask her if there is a link or more information on this study? This sounds like it could be very good news! Do you know if there are trying to get it aproved as a treatment for PCOS too? - It was approved by the FDA for type 2 diabetes, I think, spring 05.
