    Smile Saw Palmetto

    Hi all,

I have been reading all the threads on here about alternative remedies.
I have decided to finally try them.
I wanted to start with Saw Palmetto!, But I am not sure how much to take what mg? etc...

The only decent place in the UK that I trust to buy from is Holland and Barett, but they have several different kinds of Saw Palmetto. thay have Capsules 320mg and 450mg. A Complex Capsule, A Liquid Extract and Standardized Capsule in 320mg and 450mg.

Which one would be the best to start on, which mg and how much a day?

Sorry for all the questions, I know everyone is different.

    Blessings

I've used the H & B liquid extract and the capsules. The relevant dosages are on the packaging and there's no real reason to change what is recommended. I preferred the liquid extract, but at the moment am using up my last lot of capsules.

It's worth comparing H & B to any local health food shop you have, as for some of the things I use, I've noticed that my local health food shop has 'one a day' dosage - which can be simpler and cheaper. H & B is great for sales - I've managed to get everything I use for my PCOS at various sales - if you wait long enough, then stockpile, you can save a fortune!

I've just tried Saw Palmetto myself. I buy an Australian brand, Herron Pharmaceuticals (this is because a friend of mine works for them and has assured me they have the highest standards in the country for production of medications and supplements. I've been to the factory and you could eat off the floors!

The dosage I take are the 1600mg tablets, twice per day (as directed on the bottle). Apparently this equals the same amount of the dry fruit.

I've only been on it a week, but already I've noticed a difference in my moods (usually by this time of the month I'm REALLY depressed) and the hair too. When I pluck the hair slides out as if it's not anchored to anything - really easy!

    Hope this helps.

    Thanx ladies.
I am hoping to get some at the weekend. My depression is terrible, just lately it seems to be getting worse I am hoping Saw Palmetto will help start to sort it. As for the hairy chin and tash, I only have to blink and it's back. Luckily I don't work or go out much so its only family that see and they understand. But it's so embarrasing. I shave 2 -3 times a day and it gets so sore. I've never tried plucking........ not the chin anyhoo.

    Thanx again

I only pluck once per week, and only the chin area (I have a full beard and mo), but it just keeps them down a bit, you know?

I can't say the difference is HUGE yet in any of my symptoms, but it is noticeable in that "something" is happening.

I am pretty sure my moods are WAY better than they were before I started taking it. By this time of the month I'm usually in a full on depression, but so far I'm feeling pretty good!

Ok, I need help! I am so confuzed. I went to Walmart to get some Saw Palmetto. They had like 5 different kinds. I didn't know which was better, so I figured the most expensive one, right? So I bought the Standardized Extract, and you take 320 mg a day. But once I got it home, I realized that it says it is intended for men, and it supports prostate and urinary health. Now I am afraid to take it. I already have too many male hormones, I sure don't wanna mess myself up worse. Should I take it back and trade it, or does it benefit men and women...and are all types equally as good?

Long story short, which kinds should I buy, and which should I steer clear of? Any input is greatly needed and appreciated!!! Thanks!

It is intended for men, but it works on testosterone, which is why women with PCOS take it. It won't increase your androgens or anything like that. They just haven't figured out how to market it to women yet.
