    Default conceiving after D&C

    Hi Ladies,
I unfortunately miscarried on 4/3. I was 10 weeks along, but the embryo stopped developing at around 6 weeks. I had a D & C, that same day. I am just wondering what feedback others have gotten from their doctors regarding conceiving after a D & C, the amount of time to wait, or anything else I may not be thinking of.
    thanks

Trupples, I am so sorry for your loss. I was 7weeks and 5 days along when I had my d&c on 3-15. I have heard some women say that their drs want them to wait anywhere from 1 cycle to 6 cycles after a d&c before they start ttc again. However my dr said that we can start trying as soon as I start my new cycle, which should be any day now. I have had bleeding since my d&c and so he wants me to have an actual period in hopes that it will get my body back on track. I took provera and should be expecting my period soon.
Are they following up with any ultrasounds or betas to make sure everything is progressing normally? My dr's office said they normally don't do that after a d&c, but since I was having abnormal bleeding they did both a beta and an ultrasound just to make sure things were ok and that there wasn't something going on. But most women do have some sort of followup just to make sure things are going smoothly as far as the body is concerned.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. These women here are amazing!!!

Again, hon, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss and hopefully I can help answer your question.

I had a d&c on 3/16....at 9wks. The baby stopped growing around 6wk5d. My doctor told me to wait 2 months to ttc again. He didn't say anything about getting af first, just 2 months. So in about a month that will be 2 months.

Right now, my plan is to wait until i get af, then start trying after that. If it's b-4 the 2months, which it's not looking like that right now, then we'll probably go for it.

    So sorry again....sara

I am so sorry for your loss. I had a situation very similar to yours. In July I had a d&c at 10W because the pg didn't progress. My dr just had me wait for AF and then told us we could begin trying again. I wish you the best of luck. If you need anything or just want to talk or vent, feel free to PM me.

I just had a cytotec induced miscarriage (maybe? I don't know what to call the actually cytotec portion... abortion is "correct" but... harsh...) ... anyway the paper work they sent me home with said no sex for 3 weeks, wait 2-3 cycles to TTC (pretty standard, generic answer). When I went for my check up yesterday to see if everything was out, my doctor said they generally tell people that they can TTC as soon as they are emotionally ready and they they usually tell women no "relations" for 2 weeks - BUT I felt like she was saying that with a kind of "take this with a grain of salt" inflection, if you catch my drift. She said there is somewhat of a chance for infection since the cervix dilated and all to let the "contents" out (I had a blighted ovum so there was no baby) ...

Anyway... well I am figuring if and when my bleeding stops, I will take my chances. Going to use OPKs, going to see what happens this cycle.

I think if I had a D&C, though, I personally - this is just personally - I would wait a whole cycle to start trying, just because it is a little more stress on the body, I'd see that as a little more to recover from, a little more agression to the cervix, a little more trauma to the uterus. That's just me, personally. But I would think one complete cycle would be enough to heal.

I guess if you ovulate normally and have the luxury of waiting 2-3 chances and know you'll have a chance then - that's fine... but some of us, we don't really have ovulations to spare if you know what I mean. That's what drives me so crazy about all this, not just the waiting to try again, but not knowing if I will have the opportunity to concieve again.

You will see from my siggie that we share a similiar story.
Personally I wanted to wait until I had a full cycle (theres alot of conflicting info but I felt that waiting one cycle was best for me).
I had the d&c on the 21st Feb, and just on the last days of my AF now. The AF was alot heavier & redder then normal, so I think waiting once cycle was probably the right decision.
My GYN advised to wait 6 weeks, but some say 3 months and others say your body will know when to conceive again.
So sorry you are going through this.

I had a d&c on July 6th last year and I am still waiting to get the go ahead to start ttc again.
Thing is with me the doctor that performed my d&c butchered my uterus and it has/had severe scarring. It's a pretty rare scenerio so don't worry that you have scarring.
Had things in my uterus been normal after my d&c last year I would have been able to start ttc after one or two cycles(medicated or not)
    Good Luck.

I had a D & C last August when we found out at 8 weeks that it was a "blighted ovum." My RE suggested to wait one cycle. I ended up waiting for 2 cycles just for my sanity and just to regroup. I conceived after the 2nd cycle. Have you had a follow up visit with your doctor since the D & C?

I'm so sorry that you're going through this. I wish you well. It's so difficult to have to go through this in life.

I had a D&C back in December. I was 9w at the time of the d&c. My Dr let me start TTC again as soon as AF showed. I did two cycles on Tamoxifen after that and I am now happy to report PG again! I got my BFP a couple of days ago. Hopefully this one will stick.
