    Default How Long?

I am sure you all have been asked this before but... I found out yesterday that I am having a miscarrage. I was 6 weeks yesterday too. The doctor said that my body will handle everything on its own. My question is how long did the cramping and very heavy bleeding last. They told me it should be about a week. I feel like I am going to float away on this pad( I hate pads). And do I have to wear a pad the entire time or just for a few days. I don't think I have passed the baby yet, I don't even know what to look for either, it is all just very scary to my husband and I.

Very sorry for your loss. My bleeding went 2 weeks, but it was cyclic. I thought it was stopping a few times but then it picked up again. Physically it was not so bad; emotionally it was tough.

Sorry to say you do need to stick to pads... no tampons. That was one of the worst parts.

You should have follow up with your doctor to monitor your betas -- they should return to 0/negative (which at most labs is < 5) -- which will indicate that everything passed. If your beta doesn't clear you may need folllow up.

If the bleeding is very heavy (soaking through a pad in an hour) then you should call your doc.

I wish I had some other words of comfort for you... I am truly sorry for your loss and hope that things go quickly for you.

    Hugs,
    -Tia

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

My bleeding lasted about 3 weeks. From what others have said on here before, I notice that not everyone is the same, but usually ranges from 1 week to a month, some have bleed longer.

You do need to stay monitored until your betas are back to 0.

As for seeing something pass, you won't. A six week pg is smaller than the tip of a pen, so you won't see anything other than the blood ans some clots.

Again I am sorry for your loss. This board is a great source of support when you need it. ((Hugs))

{{{HUGS}}} I'm so sorry for your loss.

Like Clarissa said, everyone is different. My bleeding from the first 2 m/c's was a little heavier than AF, and lasted only a couple days longer. The last one was weird, b/c I kept having spotting for several days before the real bleeding started, and for a while after it stopped.

Like the other ladies have said, you do need to have your beta's checked until they are down to normal (some docs follow to 0, others to 5-anything below a 5 is considered a negative result for pregnancy, so that's why some stop there.) My last m/c, I had several tests because it took a while for the beta to go down. I guess that had something to do with the weird bleeding.

I hope the physical part of the m/c isn't too rough on you. And you have a lot of sympathetic cysters who have been through it to help you with the mental/emotional side of it.

    I'm so sorry.

I too have just miscarried. I was 6.5 weeks when I had a scan and I was told I was going to miscarry. The bleeding/cramping didn't start for 3 weeks after this and I bled for over 2 weeks. The bleeding for me was a lot heavier than normal with a lot more clots. After nearly two weeks of bleeding I passed what I think was the sac and at this point the bleeding stopped quite abruptly. The whole process can take a while, I hope it is quick for you.

I used cytotec to induce it, and mine stopped growing at ~5 weeks, but this was my experience. Took two rounds of cytotec to induce. Took second last Thursday night (a week ago) and bleeding/cramping began Friday morning. Sac was passed before noon - I was kind of leaning forward and looking between my legs while on the toilet and saw something kind of large plop out. I fished it out of the toilet and it was about the size of a largish grape (regular grape, not those huge globe grapes) I opened it with a fork and there was nothing inside but fluid, which was in some way reassurring to me.

I guess I would say the first 2-3 days bleeding was somewhat heavy and crampy but not at all as bad as I was expecting. I tend to have weird periods in that the flow is not light but it only comes out when I am on the toilet - this was no different. I didn't really get much bleeding on a pad. It was lighter after that, like maybe I would only see blood in the toilet 2 times a day... yesterday there was hardly any... and today I think it is stopped. So assuming it is stopped, the whole thing has only taken a week.

It may be different/worse if an embryo ever actually developed, but I didn't have an embryo, just a blighted ovum which becomes a sac and that's all.

Thank you all for responding. My doctor did say that he wasnt to chech my betas every week until they are under five. I think the worst part of it all was Monday was my first prenatal visit and he said everything seemed fine, he did alot of blood work which wasn't back by the time I was there again yesterday morning for the miscarriage. I don't know anyone that has gone through this before so I am sure you all will be hearing from me quite often.

I am so sorry for your loss.

My experience was pretty much as Tia described-- I could have written her first paragraph.
