Thread: O.K.- I HATE Glucophage

    Default O.K.- I HATE Glucophage

Okay, a little backround--- First of all, I am not a type 2 diabetic and I am not insulin resistant, but my fertility dr. put me on Glucophage about 3 weeks ago, because I am starting IVF in the next couple of months and apparently you get better results when adding this medication. I have no clue why- but that's what he said. So- desperate to have a baby....I'll take just about anything he gives me at this point! Anyway, I totally feel like s@*! on it! I never had any diarrea, but I get very, very nauseus at certain times of the day. BTW, he had me start out with 500 mg the first week, then go to 1000 mg the second week, then to 1500 mg the third week. At this point I am still only taking 1000 mg per day. I am trying to stick it out but it's really starting to get on my nerves. I am so sick and tired of feeling like crap from it- that I really want to stop taking it.
    Any advice????

Maybe eating will help. It made me feel funny for the first little bit but it is how I have both of my children so I am thankful beyond words to the makers!
It also makes you have to go to the bathroom if you eat the wrong things.

Yep, right food is the key! At least thats what I find best to work with this medicine....and I usually take it in the evenings with my dinner.

    Hang in there!

It may help if you up the metformin more slowly. I found I had to increase it very very slowly, sometimes just a quarter of a pill more each few weeks...

Increase your dosage slowly - it took me 2 months to get up to my full dosage of 2500 mg. Try to eat less carbs - this will help with the bathroom issues & nausea. It definitely does get better :-)

also, avoid alcohol if you can, or space out the time between drinking and taking the met. i learned this one the hard way on friday. i had a glass of wine and then took met and within minutes my stomach was doing flips and i was (TMI alert) gassy all night with diarrea close to follow - was miserable!

i also find i get nauseaus every single am about an hour after i wake up, especially if i don't eat anything!

    good luck!
