    Question Phentermine

I didn't see this anywhere here? But is anyone on phentermine to help with weight loss while retraining yourself to eat right. I was just prescribed and started last week. Just wondering about any's experience with it. I also take metformin (which I have not lost weight on). Has anyone had luck with it? Did you keep the weight off when you stopped (My dr said once I hit my target I'd be weaned off)? Are you still on it? Did anyone conceive while on it and what happened? I know I know...a million questions that just can be answered. But, I'm happy to hear anyone's stories, successes, defeats, etc. Thanks much all.

    Default phentermine

I was on Phentermine a couple different times and it really helped me lose weight. It gave me extra energy and decreased my appetite big time. My doctor would only let me do it in 4-6 month intervals because he said it was too addictive. The only problem was that I did gain the weight back when I quit taking it because my appetite returned. It is a good way to jump start the weight loss, but it definitely isn't long term.

Good Luck with your weight loss! I am now trying Byetta along with Met to see if I can drop some weight.

Last year I was on it for about 4 months, I lost 40 pounds on it, that was with eating healthier and riding my excersise bike. The phetermine really helped me out, I would hardly be hungry at all. I got mine through the Dr. and went in for monthly weight checks and to check my blood pressure and make sure I was doing ok on it. There is some side effects though, I couldn't hardly get to sleep at night it kept me up, also I notice that sometimes I would feel like I was getting some chest pains or like my heart was racing at times. I took it for the 4 months and lost the 40 pounds and was pleased with the results, felt good about myself. The sad thing is I kept that weight off for about 6 months after but then I started to go back to my old habits and not keeping up with the excesising so I gained most of it back, I would say I gained all but 10-12 pounds back. I could go back to the Dr. and start the program back but when it started to make my heart race, I decided not to. Good Luck, it worked for me and as long as you don't get no bad side effects from it and your Dr. is checking you every month you should be ok.

I have been on it now for 3 full days and I am having trouble sleeping. I hope that as I get used to it, that side effect will wear off.
    Did it for you?

I just started taking Phen as well. I have been at a plateau for months and felt like I needed a boost. I hope it works. I would love to hear other stories from those of you that have tried the drug. Please post. Thanks!

    Default Update.....

    Hi all!!

I haven't had any trouble with not being able to sleep with the phentermine. My dr prescribed to take it an hour after lunch because it stays in the system for 8-10 hours. He said if I had trouble sleeping to adjust it accordingly to before lunch.
Anyways, to date (I started 5/24/06) I have lost 20 lbs. My exercising is lacking but I have made progress with the eating. I eat better opting for more healthy choices, but I don't turn my nose up at a cheese burger. I'll just remove either the top or bottom bun or only eat 1/2. Ultimately, I stop eating when I feel satisfied-no overstuffed. I fear when I stop taking the phentermine without developing some type of exercise program I like I'll gain it all back. On the up side with the weight loss, my cycles have shortened to 38 days and I actually ovulated last month. As a bonus, I've discovered the Lipton Diet Green Tea drink (I prefer citrus flavor) which helps with my water intake and it helped me over my plateau. So far so good....Good luck to all who are also trying w/ phentermine.

If you're having trouble sleeping at night, take it really early in the morning.

I'm fine with taking it when I get up around 7am, but when my mom took it, she had to set the alarm for 4 in the morning, take it, go back to sleep, etc.

I love the energy it gives me. I now have the energy to clean, cook, take care of my son, and exercise! Before, I had to pick the most important b/c my energy was so low.

I have not lost a lot of weight on it, surprisingly. It has curbed my appetite, but I am more of an emotional eater and a sugar addict. Plus my hormones have been sooooo crazy, I've been craving stuff like mad!

Most people do really well on it. Just remember that we need to be changing our habits at the same time to really make a difference. Good luck!

i am taking phentermine too. i actually started last year in feb. and i lost 35pds. i got preg but did not know i was and i m/c at 91/2 weeks. i still kept the weight off. now, its been a little over a year since i have been eating right and excercising and the weight is still off. i dont know if its cause of the way i eat or what. i dont eat like i used to and i take a pill here and there to keep my appetite curbed. im not done losing weight (still have like 30pds to go), but i can say that the phen did help alot.

im going to my doct on monday to have him prescribe me some adipex and we will see how that does.

does anyone take clomid or any other fertility drugs with the phen??

I'm taking a small dose, in fact the same as you: 15mg once a day. I take my pill with breakfast and I'm not hungry for most of the day. Since I eat breakfast REALLY early, my stomach usually starts to growl by 3PM. So I'll have a small snack (for example, today was low fat mozz cheese with low fat crackers) and I'm fine until dinner.

I don't have problems sleeping at night because I take my pill very early and I exercise at night. I'm so completely wiped from the exercise that when it's time for bed I have no problem dozing off.

Oh, and make sure you drink TONS of water. This pill gives me cotton mouth really bad.

Oh, and it does make your heart race and does affect your blood pressure. This pill is essentially medically controlled speed. I don't suggest working up to anything above 15mg, and in fact the doctor I'm seeing won't increase my dosage any more than that because eventually your body builds up a resistance and that's when you'll need more and more and more... etc

My doc suggested if there were problems taking an entire pill during the day, to either take it at night or to cut it in half and take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night.

Make sure your doc also checks your blood pressure every week or every other week. If there's an increase in your BP, you need to stop taking the pill.

Also, since this pill induces a sort of anorexic state (it does with me), make sure you take a multivitamin (I take a multi plus I also take extra vitamin E and I get a B-12 shot).

    Hope this helps.

You will do fine with it.

It takes some getting used to, but stick with it. It allows you to eat less and it helps shrink your stomach.

I'm not a doctor or an expert, but I'm right there with you. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions/concerns.

At my 2 month recheck, my dosage was upped from 15mg/day to 30mg/day. A good friend of my also to phen and she did say you almost become immune to it. My dr even said that your body becomes used to it. You have to be weaned off it too. Still no problems with sleeping. Although, I haven't experienced an energy boost like some have. I wish I could because I start dragging about 3 pm at work.
