Default So. Florida (Broward Co.) Met-aware GYN?

    Hello!

Just starting a new plan (AvMed?) and I'm looking for a PCOS friendly GYN in Broward County that would be willing to prescribe Met. Any recommendations would be gratefully appreciated.

Also, if anyone has any good Primary Care Physicians and/or dentists they can recommend, you'd also save me a lot of trouble!

    Thanks!

    Mary,

I'm in southern PB county, so I can't help out with a gyn in Broward. I did see a great RE in SW Broward. Not sure if you're TTC or not, but if you need that info, let me know.

    Good luck!

Dr. Ellen Wood in Pembroke Pines, FL. She is PCOS friendly and willing to prescribe MET. Good luck!

EDIT: She is an RE not a GYN. I am not TTC, but have been going to that office for my PCOS. It might be something you want to check out anyway...

Christina--That's the same one I was going to recommend too if path is TTC. She's great! She is actually an OB/GYN with an RE specialty. I didn't think she saw patients for OB/GYN matters (I assumed since it was an infertility clinic, that's all she did), so I'm surprised she just sees you for PCOS. That's good to know!

    Good luck!

    Default dx in Broward

I used to live in South Fl. I had a great experience with Dr. Kenneth Gelman in Cooper City. He is extremely knowledgeable. Also, in Deerfield Beach, Dr. Edwin Eckert will readily prescribe Clomid. He is part of South Fl Women's Health Association- they have two offices and the doctors float between them.

    Good luck!

    Hi-

Im actually in the same position that you are in. I am looking for someone to see in Broward County. Recently I was accepted by the University of Miami Endocrinology department, but my appointment isnt for another month. I will let you know if they do anything above and beyond what other endos and ob/gyns have done for me in the past.

Please let me know if you find someone in the area who can help.

Also, I am a student at Nova Southeastern University, and I was wondering if anyone one from the S. FL area would be willing to come and talk to medical students about the needs of women with PCOS and what they would like their physicians to be aware of. I know that many doctors I have gone too do not seem to take my problems seriously, and I thought it would be beneficial if a pt. with PCOS would come speak to a group ~50 students about what they wish their doctors would have known or what they did like about their care. The meeting would be during lunch time...and would last about 45min-1 hour.

National PCOS awareness month is in sept. so i thought this would be a good month.

i am the president of the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) at Nova and this would be an talk for club members.

I forgot to mention that I am currently on metformin, but it was prescribed to me by my endocrinologist, not my OB/GYN. For me I have had more luck with the endo, than the gyn since im not ttc. I just recently moved to this area though, so i havent found a good dr. down here yet.

    hi everyone

i live right by nova in davie. I have seen several RE's due to insurance changes. Dr. R. Mathews ob/gyn in pembroke pines is wonderful. Dr. Wood reproductive endocrinologist is wonderful as well. Dr. Barrionuevo is wonderful and did the glucose tolerance test with insulin levels and found i was insulin resistant. The last RE I am seeing I cant comment on due to some recent developments regarding my care.

Shari, did you get preg under Dr. Wood's care? Can I ask what kind of treatment she used?

Chrissy, i think its wonderful what your doing by educating those in regards to the patient's thoughts and feeling.

All the doctors above were all PCOS friendly and I'm over weight and none of them had an issue with it, other than adjusting my treatment.

There is a Dr. R in sunrise or plantation. Said some really rude things to me, refused to treat me and told me to come back when i lost weight.

Well, sort of. I had actually seen another RE for testing and diagnosis. I wasn't happy with him at all. I would prefer not to name him here. Let's just say that he was very pushy about moving right into the most expensive treatments like IVF, despite the fact that we weren't really seeing him regarding TTC problems. We were actually there to deal with recurrent miscarriages. We discovered that I have a blood clotting disorder that may have caused the m/c's. I decided that I didn't want to deal with the pushy doctor while TTC, so I found Dr. Wood through referral from a friend.

I went for my consultation with her and loved her. We were just starting back after a break from TTC and I didn't think I O'd yet. She did an u/s and saw that I had O'd a few days before. She told me she'd monitor me the next cycle and we'd start figuring out how we would move forward. Well, a week or so later, I got a BFP. Even though I hadn't really worked with her for the pregnancy, I stayed with her until I was 8 weeks pregnant. She was excellent with her care. She helped me get started on the right meds to help with the blood clotting problem, and she monitored the baby closely that first month. Then, she released me to my OB.

I referred another girl from this site to her. She got pregnant her second cycle using Letrazole (after trying with Clomid with no luck for a while with another RE). She's now expecting twins!

    Good luck,
    Shari

I'm in the Miami area. Anyone heard of an Endo named Julio Pita? I've seen him for awhile to manage PCOS symptoms but now TTC and thinking of changing. Wanted to know if anyone has heard good/bad things about him? Should I stick with him or find an RE?

Anyone heard of Dr. Goodman an RE? Good/bad things?
