Default Silly Myth: No Orgasms allowed while PG?

Okay, I was talking to a girlfriend last night about the advice my dr told me for TTC (relax and stop thinking about it).

Anyhow, my dr also told me I should make love to my husband often and I was telling my friend this, and she said, and you should get as many orgasms while you can before you're PG because you're not allowed to have them then. She was dead serious. She said it was because the uterus contracts too powerfully and can cause m/c's.

Someone, please disprove this for me. Dispel this myth.

Because, that would mean I'd have to stop DTD with DH at all because I can't help but orgasm when I have sex, I've got a super-sensitive g-spot.

Tell me, please, that this isn't true.

mj ~ it is a myth....I am pg and doc says go for it..... unless you have a cerclage or a some high risk....there is not reason not to have a regular active sex life. You just have to listen to your body.

Well, it depends. If one is having a normal pregnancy and doesn't have a history of IC, pre-term labor, and some other conditions, orgasms are fine. If a woman does have a history of those problems, she may be put on pelvic rest, which can include no orgasms. I think all women who have cerclages are not allowed to have orgasms. I have been on intermittent pelvic rest during my pregnancy and sometimes that means no orgasms (I was having severe cramping in early pregnancy and had a bad bleed at 9 weeks). Right now I'm allowed to have an orgasm and have sex, but my DH can't finish inside me as my dr is more concerned about the prostaglandins in the semen than the contractions from an orgasm.

Maybe there were problems your friend didn't tell you and that was the reason she was not allowed to have an orgasm, or maybe she was being overly cautious?

If you have a normal pregnancy with no complcaitions -- go with it.

If you are put on pelvic rest for a special reason -- then do what the doc says.

But most of the time, it's fine.

Oh yes, I was just reading recently that this is definitely a myth (unless, as the other ladies, you have a high risk pregnancy and have been told avoid them). Which is a good thing!

I wonder where your friend got that idea? I was on 'pelvic rest' for the first trimester of my last pregnancy beause of the threat of m/c. But that was the only time for me.

Like the other ladies said, you only have to avoid the big "O" and sex in general if you have a high risk pregnancy. If there are no complications, don't worry about it!

By "high risk," WRT sex and O, we are talking about being high risk for premature labor, vaginal bleeding, IC etc.... things that could be aggravated by pelvic activity.

I agree with all the previous posters...

But I'd like to see someone stop an "O" from happening during those great pregnancy sex dreams...

Def. a myth for normal pg.

Even as a high risk pg. (weight & family history) I asked my doctor about if my sex life would need to be altered during pregnancy. His reply "it should be as good as it was before you got pregnant- if it isn't by all means change it"

Can you stop dreams? with my 2nd pg i tried not to O but did in a dream and then m/c. I am sure there wasn't a link and it was just coincidence, but I am paranoid!

Today, at work, one of the secretaries (who has 4 kids) was talking to one of the dietitians who is 6 months pg (first child). She was telling her to have sex as much as possible in the week before you're due. "Monin', noon, and night, honey..." lol She said it'd bring on the contractions lol. I don't know..

But I sure know I'll give it a try when it comes to that time

It didn't help us, but I've heard others say it did for them.

Good to know it's just a silly myth.

I wish I knew where my friend got that idea, but I haven't been able to get her on the phone since then. I'm definitely going to set her straight.
