Nadia welcome to SC! Losing weight of course whether you have PCOS or not has a lot of things that go into it. It depends of course on your diet and exercise. Metformin may help to lose weight but it varies depending on the person, as well with losing weight... PCOS or not. Good luck!

Welcome here! Can't help you with the weight questions. I'm not overweight, per se, but my weight doesn't budge, even with lots of exercise.

Welcome! Losing weight can be a huge challenge when you have PCOS. I have been on metformin since February, and it has not really helped me lose any weight yet. I would love to be able to lose 8 pounds in two months! My endo told me he'd be happy if I lost 2 pounds a month, that would be normal, anything more he would consider too fast. Hmmm .... so far I haven't even been able to lose that, but I keep working at it.
It really depends on the individual person, how much you exercise, or rather how much more you can exercise than you already do (I am already pretty fit and dancing a lot - I have trouble fitting even more exercise in my schedule...). And of course your diet is important. Are you insulin resistant? IF so, watch your carbs.

Losing a stone (that's 6 kg, yes? 12 pounds?) in 8 weeks would be impossible for me - but it really depends on you and your body. Generally though, if you lose weight too fast and by being on some crash diet , you usually gain it back faster than you can watch. Better to change your nutritional habits for good than trying a diet that makes you feel deprived, or (even worse!) starving yourself. If your body goes in starvation mode, you lose muscle mass, and every little bit you do eat goes straight to the hips "in storage" for future starvation spells. Make sure you eat enough to keep your metabolism going, cut out refined sugar, don't eat too late at night (I try not to eat after 7 pm), and learn to love the veg.

    Good luck!

I am new too. About 12 years ago I was told I had PCOS. That was after I had two kids. I didn't have problems conceiving, but I had the hair on the chest and face, chin and neck, very heavy periods and a lot of weight gain. All the obgyn told me to do was lose weight. Easier said than done. He didn't do any blood work or anything to diagnose me. I havent focused on my life because of a sick child. I finually found out what was wrong with him and decided it was my turn. I went to the doctor complaining about joint pain and very tired all the time. At that time I was diagnosed type 2, that was a year ago this past march. I finually got up the nerve this year to speak with my doc about my other symptoms. He sent me to an endo. I am so glad. I started met and Aldactone a few weeks ago. The met is messing with my stomach. Last year, I went to diabetic teaching classes and the dietician put me on a 1200 calorie diet. I lost 40 pounds in about a year, but I gain weight very easily, if I go off the diet. I try to walk 2 to 2 and a half miles 3 to 5 times a week. I still have about 40 more pounds to lose, but have had a real hard time and haven't lost any more. I just don't give up and keep trying. I find it hard to stay on the diabetic exchanges, but I don't give up. I just get back on the wagon when I fall off. I am healthier than I was last year, but still overweight and considered obese. I was 215 pounds last year and now 175 pounds. I am only 5ft3in tall. I went from a size 22 to a size 16/18. whatever you do, don't give up!!! It isn't impossible, just difficult. Find someone to work out with. At work, there are about 4 of us who are dieting together. We are all on different diets, but we keep encouraging each other and we all work on it together. We get on to each other too. The main thing is not to give up and don't kick yourself when you fail. Just hang in there and don't focus so much on losing weight, try to focus on being healthy. I hope this helps encourage you a little to keep trying. Us Cysters have to work a little harder than the noncysters at losing weight and sometimes it seems like a complete waste of time, but do not give up...We can all work on it together.

    Lightbulb Weight Loss

    Hey, please excuse my spelling
Im 25 and have lost 85 pounds since starting my meds in 2000. I was 230 and a freshman in college, needless to say I was not a happy girl. It took about 5 months for my body to really start loosing weight. I take birth control, 500mg Glucophage(aka Metformin) 3 times a day, and 100mg Spironolactone(akaAldactone) twice a day. Ive taken this exact combo for six years, and will gladly take this med. forever. I take the met with meals (only 3 pills a day, or I get the runs). The Metformin helps my body register that I'm full, and I don't eat like I have a bottomless pit. I do 20min of crunches, leg lifts, and such in my room at night, and also I dance to a few songs a night as my cardio. I lost about 20lbs a year for 4 years this way, it was what I was willing to do. I found that I make better food choices because of the meds! not because all of a sudden I knew how to eat! My body no longer ferociously craved popcorn, or overeating. If anyone ever took away my Met/Gluc., I don't Know what I'd do. If I forget to take it, I realize only after Ive eaten every fruit and vegetable and piece of turkey in sight. The Aldactone is also a water pill, which gets rid of water weight, and the birth control, which at first gave me migrains, adds a low dose of estrogen.
I not only lost weight, but I dont even resemble my former beastly depressed self. I hope this helps, let me know.
