Default New Member with question about Actos

Hi Ladies, I was recently dianosed with PCOS. Although my Insulin was in the high side of the normal range, which my RE said could still be a sign of insulin restistance. He put me on Actos 30 mg. I didn't have a problem with it for the first two weeks but the third week I started having the cold symptoms. I thought it was just a cold, but it wouldn't go away and I read that this is a symptom. I also had a strange muscle spasm in my chest, which I am not sure if it was a heart palpation, which is another side effect. I told my Dr. about this and he wants me to try to take the Actos again when I get to feeling better. He doesn't think these symptoms are from taking the Actos, but I disagree. I am wondering if anyone else has had any bad experiences with Actos.

    Thanks,

    Tina

I've taken both Actos and Avandia. One of the side effects listed for them is "upper repiratory tract infections." Within a week of starting Actos I had a sinus infection from hell. I was on antibiotics, pain killers, and a steroid spray. I stuck it out and it eventually went away, and I continued to take it for about a year. I went off of it to get on Glumetza but the Actos has permanently messed me up. I now get chronic sinus infections and am contemplating surgery. I have been on antibiotics 6 times this year. I now have to take a double dose, double time course to clear them up when they come.
The worst thing is that no doctor thinks that the Actos is to blame. It's just too much on a coincidence for me.

So I don't really know what to tell you. Did you start at 30mg? The usual starting dosage is 15mg. Maybe you could try that for a while?

    Sandra,

I was started on 30 mg. I think when I finally get over this sickness I will try taking just 15 mg. and see what happens. I also took Avandia with a previous Dr. and I didn't have any problems with it. My Dr. said that if I had concerns with the Actos, I would need to make another appointment to see him to discuss. This is very frustrating becuase I live an hour from the office and my husband has to take time off work to watch my daughter. What a pain.... The Dr. couldn't just call in a different script; he wouldn't get paid for it!

    Thanks for your advice.
