Thread: Found out why I miscarried

Default Found out why I miscarried

I miscarried almost a year ago. I went to see an RE as DH and I want to start trying to conceive. The RE ran recurrent pregnancy loss bloodwork since I have a family history of recurrent miscarriages.

According to the tests, I have a rare blood clotting disorder called: Compund heterozygote Mthfr C677T and A1298 mutations.

Does anyone have this? I don't know anything about this and the internet stuff is really over the top of my head.

    Thanks
    Nicole

I don't have any information for you, but wish you lots of luck. I'm glad you finally got some answers, somewhat! Did the RE explain any of it to you or tell you where to go from here with TTC? I think they would know or would recommend you to someone, maybe genetic counseling? Hopefully someone else will chime in.

I just Googled it and it seem like "Mthfr" is the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase gene. Then the different numbers are the mututations (like identifying markers). It seems like it's prevalent in the population with Type 2diabetes.

I found this link on a baby website...http://boards.babycenter.com/n/forum...abyctrusz&x=17

Let me know if that doesn't work. Hopefully it will give you some answers from others that have it too!

I have a clotting disorder. I developed a DVT/blood clot in my leg in 2002 after being on birthcontrol pills for the first and only time ever for only 5 months. Because of my history, my obgyne had me on Lovenox injections twice a day during my pregnancy in 2004. it wasn't until after I lost my baby at 20 weeks, that the docs did testing as to why I developed a clot while on birth control pills. They mentioned the MTFHR (i think of Mother/Father when i see it) and they also found other things (Anticardiolipin and Antilupus coagulant) consistant with an Antiphospolipid disorder.

To this day, I still have trouble getting everything straight. My primary doc referred me to an excellent hematologist and we made a plan of action. No birth control pills ever again and If I were to get pregnant again, blood thinners throughout the pregnancy. My doc told me that with these kind of clotting disorders, baby aspirin will not help. For one of the mutations, I was told to increase my Folic Acid daily.

My recommendation would be to follow up with a highly competent hematologist. Although an RE will help you with pregnancy, you really should find out how your clotting disorder can affect the rest of your life, aside from getting and staying pregnant.

    Good Luck!

Saluki-fan is our resident clotting expert. If I run into her online, I'll have her pop over here. She should be along soon, though!

I'm glad you got some answers, even if they came too late. ((Hugs)).

Its good to know what we're going to face when we start TTC in May. We would start sooner but we have our big church wedding in May and I don't want to try and plan a wedding, TTC and take PhD exams at the same time.

The RE put me on Folic tabs and I have a follow-up with her on September 11.

Nicole, just curious what strength folic acid are you on? I did read in those articles I posted above something about the absorption of folic acid...so I'm assuming you need more than the average person. It's good that the doc is giving you some help and following you. I wish you the best!!!

I've looked at the bottle and all it says Folbic tab generic for foltx tab (new strength). It doesn't list anything in miligrams or anything. I will ask my RE when I see her in a few weeks.

Oh, it's not that big of deal...I was just curious. I'm currently taking 400 plus the 800 that's in the prenatal only because I had bought extra folic acid before we started TTC on advice of a friend and it's about to expire so I'm taking it along with the prenatal. I was just curious how 1200 milligrams is compared to what you're taking. No biggie, though!
