    Default Byetta Ladies...question for you

I've been on Byetta at 5 mcg 2 times daily for 2 months now. With that, I had some mild nausea and little appetite for the first month, but it passed pretty quickly. I just started the 10 mcg dosage on Monday. Yesterday and today, after dinner I am so sick to my stomach I feel like I might lose my dinner. Tonight for dinner I ate about 1/2 cup of rice, some bean sprouts and about 2 ozs of chicken. For dessert I had some about 1/2 cup of light fruit cocktail. I don't seem to have these symptoms in the morning. Is this normal? Does it go away with time? Or do I maybe have a flu bug? Thanks for the guidance.

I tried Byetta before conceiving during the summer and I loved it. The 5mcg was easier to handle than the 10mcg...obviously because it's a stronger dose. I found that I got more and more used to the nausea and found that Emetrol worked great for immediate nausea relief. On another note...I learned from a breast cancer survivor that sour candy can help curb the nausea as well. I chose some sour sugar-free candies. I am also an ice lover...so sugar-free popsicles worked great for me. I hope this helps some. I was only on it for a short time...and I remember losing 10lbs. in 14days at one point.

Reading your signature with meds, symptoms, etc...seems like we have lots in common. I'm new to the message boards though I've followed SoulCysters for some time now. I'm currently updating my profile.

Thanks for the tip about sour candy. I may try that. Today I was so sick after breakfast that at lunch I ate 1 small square of pizza before having to quit. Then at dinner I ate 1/4 of a salad and about 5 spoonfuls of potato soup before I couldn't eat anymore. That will work great for the weight loss, but not for my blood sugars. Last night after my small dinner, I was at 77 about an hour later. I was so sick to my stomach, I thought I would throw up trying to eat something to bring my sugar up (77 is making me feel a little too low at this point). I'm hoping that is not an issue tonight cause I know that I couldn't possibly eat anything else. I've got an appointment with my diabetes educator on Monday. I'm going to discuss these things with her and see if she has suggestions.

this isn't a personal experience as i just got my pen today, but the counselor i saw said that if nausea is a problem, try taking the pen 10-15 minutes before you eat instead of 45-60 minutes. and because byetta slows digestion and fat takes 12 hours to digest, eating fat (like peanut butter) will give you a problem with nausaea, too. hope that helps from my non-experience..lol

ETA: i did my byetta before supper last night and before b'fast today and i was taken surprise by the nausea. i have a high tolerance for things like that and really thought i'd be the ONE person who didn't have this side effect...lol it's not debilitating, i can function, but it feels like morning sickness to me...slowlly sucking my will to live...lol

I hear you about the nausea. I've noticed over the last few days it is with me all day long. For the most part it is worse after dinner. But I love the fact that most of my sugar cravings are gone. Yesterday at my daughter's birthday party, I was the only one that didn't have cake and ice cream. I just didn't want it. I lost 5 more pounds this week...no complaints there, just worried about getting all my nutrients in. Maybe it's time to start a vitamin.
