    Default Met Stop working??

Has anyone else had their met stop working? My PCOS seems to be at it's worst. I have bad acne, my weight is high, I keep having hot flashes and I haven't had a period since the beginning of December. Just to let you know I had thought of pregnancy and have tested more times than I could tell you. Any thoughts. I see my OBGYN in a couple weeks and I am thinking I might have to try the pill again (I really don't want to unless I have too)

Oh also I am on 500mg of met 3x's a day!

    Thanks ladies

    Cheers

I am suddenly having a really bad time. Masses of skin tags, terrible acne, sweats, I have developed dark skin patches for the first time and am loosing a lot of hair again. I have to say it seems to be my worse PCOS period ever.
I wonder what the met has saved me from though! I wonder if without met perhaps this episode would have tipped me into diabetes, you know.
    Its so hard to tell!
I'm sorry for your dreadful time. I intend to see about increasing my dose, perhaps you sould ask your health adviser too.

I am having the nearly exact issues. I started metformin in fall of 04, and it worked up until my missed cycle in December 06. I still have not had a period. My weight is up despite not really changing my diet. I've had maybe 2 phantom cycles (with all the PMS and ovulation symptoms without the bleeding). And I am in pain and bloated and having tremors in the hands again.

These were all issues that heavily plagued me before metformin worked, took off 60 pounds, and gave me a normal cycle for the first time in my then 32-year old life.

I have an app with the gyno (the one I've been with since my final and definitive diagnosis) in a couple weeks. I had thought taking topamax screed me up, but I stopped taking that even in December. It should not still be effecting my hormones.

    Talking met stop working

i have been on met a little over a year and was going thru the same thing. I went to my dr and he started me on the byetta shots along with my met. I have only been on them a little over a week, so I dont know of the real benefits yet. Although, I hardly have any appetite and when I do eat, it is a small amount. I am not extremely overweight (5'6, 156lbs) but he said he would like for me to lose approx 20 lbs and this should help.

I've been on Met for about five years, now, and I'm seriously considering getting off of it. It may help me with my symptoms, but at the same time, it could be the fact that I'm now in my twenties that has affected my hormones, etc. I've already had problems with BCP--when I'm on one for about two years they just suddenly stop working and my doctors switch me to a new one. I think Met is such a very personalized medicine to take when you have PCOS, doing different things to different people, that it is possible it could stop working.

I am considering byetta along with my metformin. Now that it has been a while what are your thoughts on it? I am hesitant simply because I hate to think of adding another medication into the mix but losing a bit of weight (I am in the same boat ... only need to lose 10 to 20 lbs) would be nice.
