Thumbs up Vitamin B Complex - Depression & Moody

    Hi there,

Just wanted to share some information with all of you which has helped me tremendously. I read somewhere that most women with PCOS have a deficiency in the Vitamin B group. Vitamin B's (B5, B6, B12) help control mild feelings of depression, anxiety and mood. So I started taking a Vit B Complex 100 and extra B12 once a day at different times to see if it made any difference.

Well after 7 months of experimentation, I have noticed a huge difference. I am a much happier person. I can control my anxiety better, and I'm also not as b*t*c*y anymore. I did stop taking them for about two weeks to see if actually was the Vit B, and boy oh boy did I feel awful. So now I make sure to take them at lunch time everyday! Oh ya, it also gives me more energy in the afternoons, don't feel so tired anymore (noticed that too)

Please note though: Vit B can interfere with other meds, so you might want to discuss it with your doc first.

Hope this help some of you!

I've asked my doctor about Vitamin B10/12 and she told me B12 would actually help me control the major PMS symptoms that I have. Not only that but I have found by checking the labels on those over the counter weight loss suppliments that B12 is also found in many of them.

So I guess there are two advantages to it... Mood control and weight loss. I'll be trying it for myself starting today..

I was wondering what's the best time of day to take it?

    Default vitamins

I have been taking a daily vitamin called Alive: Whole Food Energizer for the past two months. My endo was very excited about it. A friend of mine turned me onto it. It has substantial B vitamins in it. Energywise I really felt an improvement when I started taking this. There is a catch though. It comes in three forms. The problem with the pill form is that you have to take it three times a day! I have too many other pills to remember as it is. The shake is not too bad although it takes getting used to. It's green and slimey and comes in vanilla and apple cinnamon. The best one is the lemon-lime effervenscent (spelling?). It is like alka-seltzer and goes down nicely. I buy it at whole foods and I know it's available online as well.

While I approve of vitamin B for depression, I have to add a few things...
    1. It's best to take the b supplements as individual pills, and not as a multivitamin or combo pill. A powder/liquid would be even better. There have been studies that show that you may be pooping out most of multivitamins... so if all you can afford to take is a multi, cut it in half and take half in the morning and half at night.
    2. Watch out for certain brands of multivitamins if you have a history of anxiety or bipolar depression. Sam-E is one of these... it carries a label on it that states that it is known to cause mania in bipolar patients. (in other words, it lifts the depression and flips you over into a manic state)
    3. In high doses, some vitamins can be toxic, so make sure to do your research and/or consult with a doctor... you might even want to get a good thorough blood workup done before starting, just in case.
