    Default Mystery Diagnosis & PCOS

They had a lady on this TLC show tonight who was eventually diagnosed after about 15 years.

She had been to many, many doctors and they only thing they told her were her hormones were crazy and put her on BC.

They dont tell you the diagnosis until the end, but as soon as she started talking I knew it was PCOS.

This is the FIRST time I've seen it mentioned on TV.

Hey My name is Candy and I am new to the message board. I just joined tonight because of the T.V. show on TLC Mystery Diagnosis. I too knew that she had PCOS after she got to talking about it. Do you have PCOS I was just wanting to know what they put you on for it. I just want to make sure I am not missing anything about this PCOS. I have been diagnosed for about a yr. now, and still have so many questions that no one can seem to answer.

    Thank you so much,
    Candy

    Hi,

Are you talking about the lady named JoAnn who had the high testosterone levels? If not sorry, but I just watched a mysterday diagnosis episode the other day and the doctor thought that JoAnn had PCOS since she had many of the symptoms, which is the usually the case, but she DID NOT have PCOS but had a very rare disorder of nonclassical congenital adrenal hyperplasia. The doctor said that the two conditions can be confused with one another because they both cause high testosterone levels but while PCOS causes higher testosterone via ovaries, the 2nd conditions causes higher testosterone via adrenal glands.

Anyway, it was a great episode! Sorry if it's not the same episode as the one you are referencing.

I think you may be talking about me

I shot a PCOS episode for Mystery Diagnosis that originally aired in October of 2004 and has be re-run on TLC and DHC for over two years!!!!

I did the segment with Dr. Sherif, who also just did the new segment on CAH for Mystery Diagnosis which just aired yesterday for the first time.

The show I did is on You Tube and there are a few threads on the soul cysters boards here about the program.

In anycase, thanks for watching, I can not believe it is still going !!!!

    All the Best,

My Mom saw this one tonight. Taped it for me to watch. She thinks I might have that instead of PCOS. Since I am not getting any better with my PCOS treatments. I actually feel like the living dead 98% of my life. -sighs- I am glad other people want this show though. I been addicted lately and so has my Mom. It really opens up a whole new outlook on a lot of stuff.

Ashley- I saw this episode about a year and a half ago and it totally inspired me to go the doctor. Although it took me the entire year and a half to get the PCOS diagnosis, I never gave up after seeing your story. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that it defintely made an impact! Thanks!

My friend was actually watching that episode and its what made her ask her dr to be tested for PCOS. Sure enough 2 weeks later she was diagnosed and found that she had 25 cysts on her ovaries and all bloodwork pointed to PCOS. If she had not watched that show and saw all the symptoms (Even though I've told her mine) she would not have been diagnosed.
