    Default Binge Eating

Does anyone else do this? I tend to get "cravings" for certain foods...for instance, I have been craving some "Munchkins" from Dunkin Donuts for WEEKS now....I have fought and fought the urge for any donuts, until today. I went inside, and bought 25 of the Munchkins and two cappuccinos. Honestly, I bought the donuts for my "neighbor" here at work to share with me, as well as the other coffee. By the time I got to work EVERY SINGLE ONE of the donut holes was gone....I am SO sickened by this....That's enough calories for the ENTIRE day, and then some. I keep fighting the urge to go make myself throw up...it's not something I have ever done before, but it keeps popping into my mind. I know it's not good for you and will lead to many health problems.... why can't I just be NORMAL???
    Tomorrow is another day....

Girl, you are not alone! I have been in the same place beore, once I ate 4 mcDonalds cheeseburgers!!!! It is an aweful feeling, not only how sick you get by the physical act of gorging yourself, but now you have the emotional side of failure and disapointment as well. I have made myself sick before, not b/c of emotional reasons, but b/c my stomach hurt so bad! lol
Are you IR?? That has alot to do w/ uncontrolable cravings. Seince i have been on the met, i am feeling ablot better, less cravings. I try to keep alot of differnt flavors of sugar free gum on hand and when i get a sweet tooth I chomp on that for a while!! I also crave salt stuff, like pickles alot, or french fries, once it was so bad I drove TO McDonalds for french fries ( can you see that the golden arches are my weekness??) BUT i only allowed myself a happy meal portion of fries, and you know what i didnt finish them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After putting so much thought into the fact that I shouldnt have an adult size, i felt so dumb on the way home, like "what the hell did i just do?" about half way thu, i chucked them!!!!!!!!!!
Just know that you are not alone, Good Luck!!!!!

thanks for the words of encouragement. About a year ago, I remember going thru a McDonalds drive thru and not being able to make up my mind if I wanted a chicken nugget meal or a Quarter Pounder meal...so I got both. I only ate one of the fries but UGHHH Talk about feeling icky. I don't know if I am IR....How do I find out? My dr. did put me on Met when I was first DX but it made me so sick that I stopped taking it Now I am in a spot where I don't have insurance (I started a new job) so going to DR is out of the question right now.
    AHHH I HATE PCOS!

Hi My name is Amy and I am a Binge eater...

Count me in on this one... I cannot tell you how many times I have went to the Bulk Barn and bought loads of candy and ate it all in one sitting. Especially those stupid yellow candy bananas. I will also sit here at home while the kids are in bed/school and eat a whole box of crackers with cheese whiz or peanut butter. Its never ending

No wonder I gained back the 45 pounds I lost !! Thankfully I am getting it back under control again instead of gaining all of it back plus more.

Anyways you are NOT alone ! I dont know how to control it, for me its mostly boredom...

    Hi there,

I know how you all feel, I have been there so many many times before.

It really sounds like IR to me. I too use to eat everything in site. Actually that's how I decovered I had PCOS.
I was so concerned about my behavour that I ask the doctor to help and figure out what was wrong. I started binging at the age of 9 y/o. So at 16 my doctor did a GTT test, asked about my AF and did an u/s on my ovaries. I was DX and given MET.

It was my saving grace. It helps to much with the cravings. I don't feel like eating everything anymore. I would really ask your DR to check you for IR. The s/e on Met were terrible for me.. I put up with them for years, now I take a new Med called Gluzmeta (same as Met) and the s/e are gone now.

    Hope this info helps.

I was doing it alot last year. I have in the past few months also, which I know isn't good, but I have to admit I have. I would not eat nothing in the morning and by 3 or 4pm I would start to get hungry and eat a candy bar or have a few chips or cookies and then I would feel so awful that I had the bad stuff so I would go make myself throw up. I hate that I do it, but I have and still do sometimes, I went to I-Hop one night and got in the car and hated myself for eating all that food, I knew that when I got home I was going to make myself throw up. So, yes I have in the past done it and still till this day do it time to time, I hate doing it, but I do.

Ok, here is the deal, I am in a similar situation you are in with insurance here is my story.

I tried met at first and it made me sick. I started taking it again and this time i took it with a larger protein meal at supper. load up on anti-diareah pills, gas- x and pepto---- the side effects will go away. As far as the insurance... I just called my doc and said "I want to go back on the met" then i called walmart and they have it on their 4$ plan but the doasage i get is 6$, not bad....
So it can be done. It works for me, other girls have talked about getting it from their county health department, otherwise, talk to your doc about it, they might have samples. And if you cant do walmart call around to different pharmacies, someplaces are ALOT cheaper than others.

    Good LUCk!

Wantnbbs, thanks for the advise! I am going to try calling my dr thias afternoon to see if he will call me in a prescription. I appreciate all your help in this ladies, hopefully the Met will help me out some. I actually almost made myself throw up this morning after writing my post...I started to gag and couldn't make myself go through with the rest...I just sat down in the stall and cried. I felt so dirty...pathetic like. No one else understands it really except for you guys, my mother is like "just stop eating so much". Yea thanks mom.

I too am guilty of this. I ordered a Filet o fish meal a McD's and they accidently put 2 in the bag...so I ate it all...then ordered a snackwrap, too. I can easily eat a whole thin crust pizza, and top it off with 3 Krispy Kreme doughnuts...and I too, am guilty of purging afterwards.

I haven't done any of that since the Met. One thing that helps is that when I did binge, it would be when I got home from work. And THAT is when I take my Met...so, if I overeat, and purge, I will lose my Met too...that's what I tell myself, and psychologically, it works, for me...

before I went on met and started eating "right" and my stomach has shrunk I was THE WORSE. I would eat much much more than my 6'1 HUSBAND. we'd go to subway. I'd get TWO footlongs, chips and a drink and inhale it all. I use inhale b/c i really didn't "eat" them. I pretty much just swallowed it whole. When i'd go to mcdonald's i'd get a big mac, a couple mcchickens, a double cheesburger, a HUGE fry, and eat it all like it was NOTHING. I also have thought about "purging" but i'm literally SCARED of throwing up, i always had been, i almost have a panick attack when i throw up, so that kept me from purging my food. there are days where i miss binging soooo much. that was my friend, that was something i could ALWAYS depend on. And when i get sad about DH being gone instead of running to the chinese buffet or burger king i'll grab a banana and do some yoga. I haven't had fast food since march 1, 2007 and i won't have it again until the night DH gets home from deployment..i have a feeling i'm gonna pay for it with my met though LOL I second the idea of Met. I would have NEVER lost the weight i have and stopped binging without it. Also something that wouldn't hurt is a therapist. Emotional eating is a bigger problem than most people think. You have to learn your "triggers" just like a heroin addict. My triggers are mainly the TV (i used to have to have something in my mouth in front of the TV) and when i'm REALLY REALLY happy about something i tend to be triggered to binge (i think that's the southerner in me lol) good luck with it doll.

I think one of my weaknesses is watching TV...not because I always have something in front of me, but because the commercials! Almost every single one is about food....pizza, pasta, donuts, mdonalds....I could go on. That and boredom.

    as regards the tv thing:

    http://news.scotsman.com/health.cfm?id=634472007

as regards the bingeing, i find that about two or three days a month, i just eat like i've never seen food before and nothing fills me up. the rest of the time i'm fine. unfortunately, today is one of those days, i'm at work, and i've just run out of food!

Now on Avandamet, which is a wonder drug. Can't recommend it highly enough. Ask your doctor for it if you're worried about Metformin side effects.

I get the cravings all the time, even on met and binge too much. Even now, 100oz of water in me making my stomach feel like it's going to burst, or I'm going to vomit one. And I have the compulsion just to go eat a cookie, or some chips, or SOMETHING.

Wow, can I relate on this one! I've binged all kinds of things. To me, it's a sickness. I don't do drugs or over do it with alcohol, I EAT! Eating is my escape and my piece of mind. I'm an emotional eater and it really is an addiction. After a hard, long day, I'd like to cuddle up with some comfort foods and I feel good.

I've been on WW now and have managed to stick with it so far. I'm trying to break this unhealthy cycle. I've even said to myself a few times after feeling so sick, that I am literally killing myself with food. I'm so glad I am not alone!

WW is a good diet. I lost 32lbs on it in less than 4 months, with no exercise (never got motivated to exericise) or meds. Too bad I didn't stick to it, even though I found it easy. Was going through the process of buying my first house and that caused a lot of stress which equals lots of food for me!
I am a BIG TIME binge eater. Right now I want to go buy a big bag of M&Ms and eat all or most of them! I sometimes buy treats and hide them from my husband, so I can eat them all (quickly) without feeling embarrassed! Eating makes me feel so good... it sucks, but its true.
