Default Take Ovaries Out due to PCOS???

My friend's doctor just told her she wants to remove her ovaries due to PCOS. This sounds very extreme to me! She has multiple cysts and you cannot even see one of her ovaries due to all the cysts. She has not been taking her medication for a long time, does not follow a low-carb diet, is losing her hair, has oily skin, yada yada yada.........

She has cysts growing inside of cysts.

Now, has anyone ever heard of a doctor wanting to remove the ovaries due to PCOS? This sounds crazy to me.

Removing the ovaries will not cure PCOS. We all know it is about getting hormones under control, etc.

    What do you all think?

    Thanks.
    Gwen

I would get a second opinion also. Maybe if she starts taking her meds and follows a diet they will get better. Best of luck to her!!

I would also suggest a second or even third opinion.

    I agree with the others.
Tell her to get a second opinion.
Ovary removal seems a bit drastic.
Your friend should be taking her meds and following a better diet as well.

I agree with the others...get a second opinion and maybe even a third. That is definately a very drastic option!

    I agree with the others.

Someday, when I am done TTC, I will have my ovaries removed because I too get a ton of cysts and will have to keep having surgeries to remove them.
