Default avodart, new miracle drug - anyone tried?

    http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/f...at-work?page=3

check this article out, it says something about avodart that redcues about 94% of DHT. (propecia only reduces it by 50-55%) I really want it, sadly, its still in trial, so i dont know if I could coax it out of my doctor, but i plan to try. if anyone has any luck, let me know.

Hi! Would avodart help with excess hair too, or is it just for hair loss?

i would think it would help with excess hair too.. i've already left a message asking my endocrinologist to prescribe this for me. i'm officially in a state of desperation! it's gotten to the point where i have to do something about this now or start looking for a wig. this is very trying for my mental health! they can always take you off of it if there are adverse effects.

    Crickatee,
did you have any luck getting anyone to perscribe this for you? I am having so much trouble, nobody cares that I am 22 and practically balding!

Lucy, yes my endocrinologist did prescribe it for me! i've been on it for just over a month now. my skin has cleared up. i don't need to wash my hair everyday. i haven't noticed more hair on my head but it's been such a short time. psychologically i'm doing much, much better.

my doc was interested and had researched the drug for me while on vacation and thankfully decided to put me on it. she said it was experimental for her as she had never prescribed this drug before. one interesting thing is that i have low testosterone levels, but highish (still normal) DHT. the avodart evidently increases testosterone a certain amount because less of it is converted to DHT, so this might help my hormone levels to become more properly balanced. also i'm amazed that my insurance so far is helping with the cost. i'm only paying $35 a month at Costco. i'm also taking the Metformin now too.

I'm eyeing this, too, when I come off from BF. One thing is Avodart can cause serious birth defects, so are yall on the bcp or something too? If so, which one?

my PCP and dermatologist were both amazed that my endocrinologist was willing to put me on it.

my endocrinologist said the same thing that i'd thought-- many, many drugs cause birth defects and they are still prescribed for women including spironolactone. i understand tho' that this drug stays in your system much longer so that should be considered if you do want to become pregnant at some point. as for myself, i won't be having anymore babies! i've had 2 and i'm now 39!
