Hi Everyone,
Well my story is pretty much the same as some other newbies, newly diagnosed with PCOS, and just looked for some guidance/support.
I've never really had regular periods, and over the last few years, they've only gotten more irregular. I knew that I probably had PCOS, undiagnosed, and so when I met the man of my dreams, we started TTC quickly, as I knew it wouldn't happen very easily. That was March 2006. We got married on October 6th, and finally made an appt with my family doctor in January. He had me start charting BBT, did some bloodwork.
He told me he didn't think I had PCOS, not from the bloodwork. The only thing that was high was my testosterone he said, so he put me on Spirnolactone, which is an anti-androgen. Well, it made me get periods alright, every 20 days, but it didn't make me ovulate. After three periods I went back to him, and he agreed to send me to a GYN.
As soon as I sat down with the GYN, he said "So, you have PCOS"..I wanted ot cry. not from fear, but from someone FINALLY agreeing with me. He looked at the Spirnolactone.. confused... and told me to stop taking it.
He prescribed metformin... 500 mg per day. He also wants to do an HSG, but wants to wait till after I get my next period. I've been on the Met for just under 3 weeks, the only thing I've noticed is a slight increase in my regular BBT. No upset stomach or any side effects so far.
He failed to put a repeat on the Met prescription, so if no period this week I'll be calling him back and hopefully he will move up the dosage.
I have a diary on a website called OpenDiary..and there is a TTC board there. I don't feel like there is alot of support and information there... being an ewbie, everyone seems way more advanced and informed than I am, and its overwhelming. Hopefully I can become a part of this community a lil easier... and at some point, be a sucess story, one way or another.
