I will be having it done pretty soon. I am just waiting to get tested for von willbronds-sp before she will do the surgery. How bad is the pain? What can I expect? I am pretty nervous
Thanks, Sarah
I'll be having this procedure done too as well in the near future for my endometriosis. However, I've seen the procedure myself countless of times as a medical student. It's not bad, it's minimallly invasive and very little bleeding. From what I've known talking to others, the pain is not excrutiating. They'll give you local anesthetic at the sites where they'll put the ports (trocor sites on your belly) and will of course give you some powerful pain meds. It's a same day surgery and you'll probably go home that day. Just don't do any heavy lifting for a week afterwards during recovery because those ports go through the belly muscles. I would love to hear what others went through in this procedure also.
I can understand your angst because you are being tested for von Willebrands, but it's just something that you have to warn the physicians whenever you have to have a procedure (ie. going to the dentist) if that's what comes out. They may give you what's called DDAVP to increase the von Willebrand factor or birth control pills (they do the same thing too).
Dear God: Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! It is amazing to think about. (Psalm 139:14)

Hello Ladies,
I've had laparoscopy done to check for adhesions around my tubes and it's not bad at all. My dr also did ovarian drilling for because of my PCOS. So the pain from a scale of 1-10 I would give my pain about a 8 for the first couple of days. And like peppagrl said, they give medication so you will be able to tolerate it. You will be ok.

hello, I had this surgery done last Wed. Wasnt bad at all, I was put completely under and before the surgery had I wanted anything to calm my nerves they would have given it to me. I have a small incision right inside my belly button and a second down at my pubic bone. My surgery was to get ris of some cysts and to check for blockages I did indeed have a blockage and a little endo but she took care of all of that. After the surgery I was very nauseated from the antestesia but I actually felt pretty good. My stomach was also swollen. Some women have problems with the gas that they put in for the surgery I however had none I had a little pain in my shoulder the first night but by the next morning that was gone. The first 2 days after the surgery I was very very sore I had to be careful with some movements but as long as I took my pain meds I was fine. Three days after surgery my stomach was still a little swollen but most of the soreness had gone away except for right around my belly button. I went back to work 5 days post surgery and everything was fine, now I am 9 days post op and have had no problems my belly button is still a little swollen inside around the incision but nothing major and it is a little tender but other than that I feel great!!! Dont worry to much about it I had totally syked myself out about it but I started a thread in the TTC forum about it and several women replied and calmed my fears!! Feel free to PM me with any ?? you may have!!! Good Luck and keep us posted!! sorry this is so long!!
Thank you all for your replies. I am glad I got some info as to what I could expect. I am pretty nervous as I usually am with some of the other surgeries in my past. I just have to make sure i don't stress too much because my BP really hits high when I stress. I will know soon when it could happen just have to test for that blood disorder so I have to wait for my period and have the test done on day 2-3. I guess they do an incision on the right and left side and then below belly button. I am heavier set and I know its a small incision but I don't know how easy it is for it to split open. I am more scare of bleeding to death or have a fear of not waking up..just all kinds of things going wrong. I am going to let my dr. know that whatever she finds wrong to just take care of it do not wake me up and tell me and then have to do surgery again. Will keep u all posted![]()
I've had two surgeries and only the second was hard because I got an infection. however that isn't very common (lucky me) After surgery you mostly feel bloated and a little sensitive. Dont be nervous you'll do fine.
I've had the surgery twice, the last one was just last Friday.
The first surgery was five years ago, and that one left me a little sore. This surgery, I had some problems with my belly being bloated because of the gas and had some problems with moving my one shoulder, other than that, I sailed through it. I was completely under for mine, and just have a small incision in my belly button that doesn't seem to be giving me any problems for the past three days. The first few days, it was a little sore, but that's to be expected.
You should do fine, I know I was nervous the second go round like I was on the first one, too!![]()
Hey all, well I made it! I had my lap done last friday. The gas pains are unbelievable. The surgery incisions themselves were not too bad but the gas pains really hurt. I had a hard time trying to sleep on my back and if I didn't lay right they would move up by my ribs and shoulders. By today I noticed I dont have the gas pains but I am still sore and just have been taking it easy. They found one of my ovaries is enlarged and there is a cyst. I will go for the follow up in another wk or so I was a little out of it when she talked about results. I am so glad I made it through this and didn't chicken out.
Sarah
I have had this done twice. Its really not that bad. The only difference for me was each time I had a D&C because I had been without a period for several months. Yeah, there is pain. My first one I didn't work, so I didn't have to worry about that. But during my second one I worked where I worked now. I was back to work 2 days later, which I don't think I should have been, for the kind of work that I do. But, the only complication that I really had was that I was unable to have a bowel movement so I got pretty bloated and uncomfortable. But they just told me to take stool softeners and then I was fine.![]()
Glad to hear you made it through okay!!!
I forgot to mention the first surgery saved my life. They found ovarian cancer and had they not been inside me already they never would have found it. it was just beginning. they removed it and I did s super short round of therapy and Im cancer free still. The docotor said its the earliest they've ever been able to find it. Which is lucky for me!!!
I had a laparoscopy in 2004 to try and find something else but they found endometriosis. They scraped it off while they were in there. Afterwards, you had to pee before they would let you go home but I could NOT pee for the life of me. I sat there forever. The pain isn't TOO bad as long as you take pain medication. It hurts to laugh or sit up. I used to have to roll off the bed and then stand up because it hurt too bad to sit up. HAHA![]()
