    Default oily hair

Sorry if this has already been mentioned in the past but I find that the hair around my scalp is extremely oily. I have to wash my hair every single day, otherwise it looks like it hasn't been washed in weeks. I wonder if this is somehow connected with PCOS? Its really annoying because I'll wash my hair in the morning and by the evening time it looks like it needs to be washed again. Maybe that's another reason that my hair is falling out so much?? hmmm..

Oily hair is definitely associated with PCOS. It is a symptom resulting from excess testosterone. When I go on Diane-35 which reduces testosterone, my oily hair goes away and I can many days without washing my hair. When I go off of it, within 2 weeks my hair becomes oily again and I have to wash it every day...

Mine stopped being oily with Met. and a lower carb diet. Recently it was gotten worse (after over a year of being better).

    Hi,

I absolutely had this problem before I started taking Metformin in 2005 - the Metformin eliminated the oily hair. Before the Metformin, I used a Redken shampoo called "Solve" and it really helped - I bought it at an Ulta store.

If you brush some baby powder or baking soda thru your hair, you might be able to get away with washing less. I work with a woman who gets very oily bangs, and she started this a couple of months ago.

i do use the baby powder idea- but its still annoyin cuz sometimes i put a little too much and my hair looks white.

it was just a big change going from nice heatlhy hair to very oily hair...

Have you ever tried a dry shampoo?? I think it works on the same lines as the cornstarch and such, but maybe better (and doesn't leave you with white hair!). I'm not sure of the specific name, but I know you can buy it online... maybe at sephora. I'll see if I can find it

I hate that problem! My hair gets so oily, and my face too! I have to wash my hair everyday or I look like a bum!

I tried the suggested things before, damp cloth, baby powder, even (clean, of course) cat litter, but it never helped. It would mat my already thinned hair together, and would look worse than before I touched it!

    Darn oil...

I was just diagnosed with PCOS and my hait is so oily it needs washed all the time. I never even thought about the association! Thanks
I have used the baby powder Idea when I have no energy and dont want to wash it again it works as long as you dont put to much. ANother thing is only condition your hair every other or every third and use a spray on conditioner instead.

To help reduce the look of the oil in my hair I only put conditioner on the bottom half. From the ears down, that way you're not adding product build-up to the oil. (it adds about 12hrs for me, thereby extending my 24hrs to 36, inbetween HAVING to wash it because i look like i dipped my head in the composte heap lol)

I wish i could only put conditioner in it every other time or use spray in, but my hair is so thick that it doesn't work. If i don't use it every time i can't brush my hair out! I mean, my ponytail is over 3 inches! it drives me nuts!
