Default Anxiety cause of faster hair growth?

    Hello Ladies,

I've been away from this board for a while but have returned because of increased facial hair. I'm healthier than I was thanks to better diet and losing 13 pounds (15 to go): normal periods, normal fasting glucose levels, lower cholesterol.

However, the hair on my face is growing in faster and I can't seem to keep up with it! Waxing is not for me as my hair is so dark. Plucking would take forever. Magic Cream irritates my skin. So I shave, like twice a day, but still I can see a shadow in between.

I guess I'm wondering if any of you have found that anxiety causes your body or facial hair to grow faster. If so, what can be done about it?

I have a new boyfriend whom I adore, and I know he adores me, but I'm terrified to let him see me upon waking up.

    Thanks for your help!

Yes, stress can cause higher testosterone levels.

I know exactly how you feel, but he's probably already guessed you shave. In my case, my now dh met me for the first time when I hadn't shaved for 24 hours and had obvious coarse moustache stubble. I was absolutely mortified, but it didn't turn him off in the slightest and we've always been open about it since then. We refer to it quite openly as my moustache (and nowadays my beard as well). Don't hide it from him. I think most guys prefer to know the reality of the situation.

joyblack~ Thank you for replying so quickly. Your answers make so much sense. And yes, I believe good communication keeps couples together. Even if I hesitate to tell him what's on my mind, he knows something's up anyway.

    I appreciate your support!

So could anxiety and stress be a trigger for PCOS or is it the other way around?

Thanks for this discussion. I also think the older you have lived with PCOS the worse the hair can be. I have tried Laser once, but ONCE is the keyword here. You have to have about 5, 4 week treatments to really see some results. I could not afford that. I tried because i was beginning to develop bad sideburns. The one treatment did work there for a long time. The hair came back slowly, softer, and lighter! The hair under my chin-different story. I have been shaving mu chin/neck for 18 years, EVERYDAY and sometimes twice a day. I cover the obvious look up with matching, cream makeup. I manage it well. Most people have no idea! I decided to get consulted by another Laser Hair Removal office again. They are very interested in "trying to help a PCOS victim". I had been given a NICE price for 5 consecutive treatments. I plan to try this in Feb of 2008. I will keep you guys posted. My husband of 11 years accepted this condition of me many years ago. He never says a word! he knows how sensitive it is to me. I can not even remember what taking a normal "QUICK" shower is like! It takes me 2X as long in the shower every morning than it does for hair/makeup afterwards! Don't worry, if your boyfriend loves you truely...he will not mind your method of removing unwanted hair!
