    Default confused about metformin

im a bit confused. i was under the impression that metformin takes away cysts and prevents new ones from growing. it seems like a lot of women on the message board are still getting them.

in april my 1st ultra sound showed that my ovaries looked like chocolate chip cookies. i went back a month later after being on met. and my ovaries looked great! i have been getting pain in my ovaries again. just like before.

whats the real deal with metformin?

I have never heard that the metformin would take away the cyst. Metformin will help decrease the insulin level in your body which in turns may help you to ovulate and/or bring on af. So I guess it could prevent other cyst from happening in some fashion. I know that when women get cyst during fertility treatments they are put on bcp's to shrink them but never met. So I am not sure.

i have never heard that Met removes cysts either. perhaps you're being gone is just a natural miracle. who knows these days. As far as what my doc and research has told me the upsides of Met are to help with insulin levels, getting a regular period and helping prevent miscarriage during the first trimester. if you are getting the pains again perhaps its time for another ultrasound to see whats going on.
