Thread: Prometrium Capsules have peanut oil?!

Default Prometrium Capsules have peanut oil?!

I was researching the side effects of Prometrium and read it contains peanut oil. I just thought I would post this since peanut allergies are often severe and many people with peanut allergies can experience anaphylactic shock. I have a moderate peanut allergy and both the prescribing endo and her RN made note of this, yet they musn't have realized their is peanut oil in Prometrium. So I figured I might warn anybody else with an allergy in case their doctor makes the same mistake.

Well, I am on my 5th day and have not experienced any hives (my usual response to peanuts). I hate to stop mid regimen and I don't know if there is enough peanut oil to trigger my allergy. Still, I guess I might contact my doctor tomorrow just to be safe.

My Dr never told me about this either but on my bottle it has that it contains peanut oil and not to take if allergic to peanuts, scary isnt though that a Dr wouldnt warn you.

Ya, neither my bottle nor the info sheet that comes with the medicine include a warning. I called the pharmacy and apparently the pharmacist's own info had a warning about peanuts but he failed to tell me.

That is strange. My bottle says it too. Weird that it says "Do not take if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant." Well doc- that's what I want to do, become pregnant!

Because of the risk of allergies, many pharmaceutical companies/compound pharmacies are begining to use sesame oil instead.
I worried about this a few years ago when we were actively ttc. Dh has a severe allergy. Thankfully I discovered the alternative.
