Thread: Candidiasis in your mouth?

  1. #1

    Default Candidiasis in your mouth?

I just finished a 10-day course of antibiotics, but am not really having the regular yeast infection symptoms I've come to expect after taking antibiotics. However, my mouth is all fuzzy. My tongue is white before I try to brush it, and after eating I immediately want to brush it again to get rid of the taste of food mixed in with the fuzz.

I know it's possible to get yeast infections in your mouth, but what kind of treatment is there for it? I've got an appointment with my doctor for Friday morning, but I'm wondering what she's going to tell me. I've never had this before.

Mouthwash doesn't really help, but I haven't tried yogurt yet... gotta go to the store to get some!

I don't know if yogurt will help the yeast in your mouth now I think its called Thrush, but next time you are on antibiotics eat yogurt to prevent it. Of course it is worth a try! There is also such a thing as Acidophillis (sp?) pills if you don't like yogurt. It is definitely good you are seeing the Dr....did you tell the office what is going on when you made the appt?

    I hope you feel better!

No, I made the appointment on Monday for something else, but it was the first one I could get for the entire week. I started noticing symptoms in my mouth yesterday.

Do they need to know in advance?

CVS, Target, and Kroger sell Culturelle. It's a probiotic and should help if what you have is trush. I don't BF, so it's not something I'm very familiar with.

I had surgery about 3 weeks ago and I got Thrush - mouth yeast infection. My doctor gave me a prescription for Diflucan. Its common especially after taking antibotics.

How much Diflucan did you have to take, tattwo? I was reading online that sometimes they give you two pills to take right away, then one each day for 14 days! sounds excessive...

I did eat yogurt while I was taking the antibiotics, but apparently I didn't eat enough.

Do you think a fever is possible with this kind of infection? I feel kind of feverish now, but haven't checked my temp. Don't really want to put a thermometer in my mouth, you know?

He prescribed the one that you take for 7 days. I hated that b/c I've take difllucan before and I only had to take one pill. I didnt know that I had thrush until I went back to my f/u appt 2 wks after my surgery and he examined my throat and stuff. Ironically, I had got a yeast infection or already had one when he prescribed diflucan to me so it killed 2 birds with one stone.

I am just wondering if they would want to see you sooner knowing your symptoms, you know?

I think I may call in the morning and see if I can see my doctor sooner. This is pretty gross! And I have read it can spread...

all anti-biotics distrupt the natural flora in our digestive system, so you will always need to take pro-biotics alongside them. You can still take them and your symptoms will slowly improve. If they don't, and you need more anti-biotics, then you will need to continue on with the pro-biotics. Just avoid activia - it makes people sick for some reason. You can get live cultures in most yogurts, just be sure to read the labels.

    Hope this helps some..

It is nasty. I also had smalls red bumps on my tongue. I thought it was from the pain meds that I was taking after surgery because it was liquid meds. Mustangsally, get a warm cloth and wipe your tongue that will help get that film off of your tongue and it will fill a little better until you go see your doc.

I was able to see my doctor at 2 today, and she called me in an antifungal mouthwash to use. She didn't think it was thrush, but didn't really say what else it might be. She also added a nasal spray. I have some congestion in the back of my throat, and felt like I was developing an ear infection last night.

So I was told the prescription would be called in right after I left, and by the time I got to the pharmacy it would be filled. I left teh office at 3, got to the pharmacy around 4:30 (made some other stops along the way!) and was told it has just been called in and it would be at least two hours.

Arrrrrrgggghhhh! I hate pharmacies like that. It's Wal-Mart, for goodness sake, shouldn't they hire enough pharmacists to keep up with demand? It's not like pharmaceutical companies are hurting for money or anything...

so it looks like it will be tomorrow before I can start treating this stupid thing. I live half an hour from the pharmacy, and wasn't about to wait around two hours or drive back down later. I had a headache and felt really bad, and was afraid I might lose it if I had to wait around two more hours and then pick it up. It's not the pharmacy tech's fault, but I know they get irate customers all the time and I try not to be that person.

I am so glad that your Doctor prescribed you something wierd that it isn't thrush though...wonder what else it could be?? Bummer about Wal-Mart though. That happened to me except they never checked the call in messages until I was there pushing the issue...then they said it would be 2 hours so DH went back the next day and ended up having a motorcycle accident on the way home...ARGH!!!
