    Unhappy Low Vitamin D level - 24.8

My Dr just called to give me my blood test results. My level came back at 24.8 for vitamin D. I have to start taking 0.2 mgs of vitamin D. Can I find this over the counter? Just wondering. I'm sure I can get it cheaper if it's over the counter. Also...I'm just a little worried that it came back so low. Have any of you experienced this?

    TIA

So I asked the phamasist about the .2mgs. She said there is not such thing. So I don't understand why this dr would have called this in for me! He's a new Dr in the office that I go to. I normally see another dr but mine was booked the day I went in for my cough. He just went ahead and did my yearly bloodtest while I was there. Might I add he gave me something I'm allergic to for my cough I was so ticked! I called the next day and gave the office an earfull! So I just went ahead and got over the counter vitamin D. I'm going to take 800 UI until I see my Endo in Dec.

    Default vitamin D

    Hi,

If you have a low reading you can take up to 2000 IU's safely per day. (You can probably take up to 10000 safely but the FDA says 2000 is definately safe.)

I would probably take that much at least if you are low, so that it will boost back up.

You might want to check out a high vitamin cod liver oil also. It tastes like crap, but it is really high in vitamins A and D.

Check out http://www.westonaprice.org for dosing and brand info. I personally use blue ice oslo orange flavored

I had this problem. I don't drink alot of calcium, and vit d and calcium are linked. Vitamin D is also produced by the body when it's in the sun. My doctor told me to take calcium supplements with Vit D in it. YOu can also get it from drinking milk enhanced with vit d or by getting out on the sun. BTw my levels increased when i stopped working nights and went to days adn was seeing more sunlight Good Luck!
