Default 3rd loss in one year, Is there hope?

    Hi Ladies:

I cannot believe I am here posting again regarding pregnancy loss. I am 8.5 weeks pregnant and everything was going better than it had in my previous 2 pregnancies. The beta's were going up nicely until about 7.5 weeks when they only doulbed once, and at 8.5 weeks they went down from 22,500 to 17,000. I go to the Dr. tomorrow, I am sure we will be scheduling my D&C. I cannot believe that in exactly one year I have had 3 pregnancies and 3 losses. I had my first D&C at 9 weeks at the end of June. They did testing on the last fetus and found no answers. What else could be done, I am at the end of my rope. I don't know how many more times I could go through this both physically and emotionally. I read about other PCOSers getting and staying pregnant, but I am very doubtful that will ever happen to me. I have all the terrible things that come along with PCOS. I am overweight and now I have officially converted to becoming diabetic. Is there any hope for someone like me to be able to see a pregnancy through when there are no other answers as to why these losses keep happening?

    Thanks,

    Michelle

(((Hugs))) I'm so sorry you have been through so much this year!! Try to give yourself a break to grieve and see a new doctor. Sometimes that provides new hopes and new answers. I'm so sorry for your losses!

I had 3 miscarriages in about a year... 1st was 3/29/06... then I had one in Nov '06 (I think)... Then I got pregnant in March '07 and found the betas were looking crappy on 3/30/07 (my birthday - unlucky time for me, huh?) BUT then that pregnancy decided to pick up and hang on... and then nose dive at 8 weeks. So actually a little over a year for them all to officially happen but I KNEW in a year.

Anyway one of those pregnancies was spontanious. The other two were medicated and i think the meds I was on were not giving me the best quality eggs. I switched meds (from Bravelle or Bravelle/Menopur to just Menopur injections) and got pregnant with a few stickies.

It could be clomid is causing you issues if nothing else points to an answer. Maybe try a different med?

YES there is hope for you.

Have you had repeat loss testing done? Not just testing for the baby? Mine was borderling for clotting issues... I went on aspirin and folgard just in case as well as prednisone for the first trimester which is found to help with loss. I don't know if any of these are what helped - I really think it was egg quality - but I don't think any of them hurt. Talk to your doctor about these things.

    GOOD LUCK!

I'm so sorry for your losses Yes there's hope for you! I had 3 losses the year that we conceived DD. Has your Dr ever monitored your progesterone after ovulation? If it's low, they can prescribe supplements that can help to sustain an otherwise healthy pregnancy. I really hope you get some answers soon (((((HUGS)))))

Thank you all for your advice and good wishes. Some of the suggestions are very good. I spoke to RE today about doing the recurrent pregnancy loss testing and he did not think it will yield anything but I think he is willing to do it. Also my DH and I thought we had been through chromosomal testing already and found out today we had not so we did that blood work today as well. (11 vials of blood UGH). We asked about progresterone supplements and HCG shots but he does not seem too big into these as solutions. I too feel similarly to Runner that it is just bad egg quality. Perhaps with some further testing we will find out.

OK so now for the big shock we went to RE today and he asked if I had started bleeding yet, as if I were miscarrying. I told him no. He did an U/S and saw a very good heartbeat again this week. He also said it looked as if it were the right size. He was surprised because the numbers going down indicates the pregnancy is bad and he thought for sure there would be no heartbeat. Of course I was excited and my doctor told me not to be hopeful that this will work out. He says once the numbers go down it is a sign of a bad pregnancy. Well little baby is holding on for whatever it is worth and until they are removing it I am going to have some hope. Also he saw something else in my uterus. He did not know what it was. It was so odd he was stumped. He said the only thing he could think of is that it may have been a twin that never developed. I was astounded. I guess at some point I will find out what the mystery is but if it could have been twins that would have been so cool. One still can dream. I asked RE if the numbers could have went down as a result of one bad pregnancy and the other is still viable and good. He said it is highly unlikely and that he has never seen that happen before. So I joked and told him that I will be the first and he will publish my case in the New England Journal of Medicine. So here we are in limbo again and not sure what is going on with my body and baby, the waiting as you all know is the most difficult. I go back for blood work next Monday and have another U/S on Wednesday. It is going to be a long week. Anyway I am asking for prayers that a miracle could indeed happen even though it is highly unlikely, however I guess crazier things have happened. Thank you again for all your support. I love my cysters. Sorry this is so long.

Michelle: i'm so sorry you had to go through all these ups and downs but i am so glad that everything seems to be working out with the baby. Is the dr. sure that the other thing in your uterus not a blood clot? I would have him test you for Thrombophilia just to be sure. I hope everything works out for your baby and i will be praying he/she makes it *HUGS*

Sorry for your roller coaster ride. It is a possibilaty that it is Vanishing Twin Syndrome. If what he saw was a possible twin that didn't make it, that could account for the drop in beta. Drs should know that.

Well thanks again for everyone's support. The roller coaster continues. I had another Beta done and I found out today at my RE appointment that it went from 17,000 which was down from the previous one, to it now being 40,000. Ay Ay Ay. This scenerio remains confusing to me as well as my RE. So I had an ultrasound and the heartbeat is still good thank goodness and the pregnancy looks as it should. My RE is now convinced more than ever that the other thing in my uterus is an identical twin. It looks like it was developing and then stopped. There is not heartbeat for the second baby. I asked him what will happen to the baby that is not viable. He was not sure. He said that it may just absorb into the system as in the vanishing twin syndrome however he thinks that happens when the twin is fraternal not identical. He still claims that in all the years he has been practicing he has not seen this before which I find hard to beleive that I am the only person this has happened to. My new anxiety is that the non viable baby will somehow hurt the viable one. I dont even know if that is possible but that is the irrational thought of the week. The good news is that I am not being sent for any more betas, and he said we will see what will happen. Also I dont have to see him for 2 more weeks and I told him that I have my first ob/gyn appointment scheduled for next week and he told me that I should keep it. So I am excited that next Thursday I will see my ob/gyn and get another opinion on what is going on. If any one else has heard of this kind of thing happening before please let me know.

    Thanks again

I'm so happy your lil bean is still there and growing nicely Michelle. I'm sorry for the loss of your twin, it must be so hard to be going through joy and sorrow at the same time. Don't worry, the vanished twin if that is what it is is not able to hurt the surviving baby. I am sure everything will turn out fine sending lots of sticky baby dust your way!
