Thread: How many of you..

    Default How many of you..

When you get sick with like the flu... you get hit really hard with the flu?

the flu wiped out our family for the holidays, but no one was as sick as I. I seem to get hit the hardest with the flu, or any illness when it comes along...

does this happen to any one else? like is it part of PCOS? or does my immune system just suck at keeping me healthy when the flu or what ever comes along?

Do you take Vitamin C or anything to keep you from getting sick in the first place?

I don't usually get the flu but I have opportunistic asthma, so any cold I get tends to become a respiratory crisis! I just take lots of Vitamin C year-round to keep myself healthy.

man i can take what ever, and if the flu is in my family i'm the one that pukes the hardest and the longest... if any one has it, i get it... mom had the wondrous idea "i wonder if that is connected to pcos"

I get hit super hard. Now I get the flu shot, because when I've gotten the flu before I am COMPLETELY out of commission. Even the common cold leaves me whimpering on the couch.
Previously on Met, currently on Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Spiro, and cinnamon

It's possible that if you have IR problems that could contribute to a weakened immune system which would lead to catching something easier and having it worse than the people around you.

As a diabetic I am considered 'high risk' and my doc advises me to have the flu shot -- which I now get every year. I haven't had the flu once since I started getting the shot.

I don't get it worse than anyone else UNLESS I have been very stressed which really wreaks havoc with my immune system which basically seems to shut itself down and I get almost hospitalized-type of sick.
It has happened 3 times now, once after my DS had to have open heart surgery, once when my Mom almost died and then the last time was when my Mom passed away.
But for regular flu/colds, etc, I don't get any more sick than the rest of my family.

I find that I hardly get ill when I'm low-carbing. When I'm eating sugar and flour, I'll get hit, as well as when I'm pregnant. I only ever had the proper flu once as a grownup, and that was before I regulated my own blood sugar. I did get a baby 36 hour flu in my third or fourth month of this pregnancy. I didn't get the flu shot this year, but that's because I was already restricted to home by the time I could get one, so I try to avoid sick people and wash my hands a lot.

I hardley ever get sick. Everyone around me is coughing/sneezing/puking etc and I am well. However when I do get sick my fevers spike so high that I have to go to the ER (IE 105.00) and nothing brings it down except high doses of IBprofen(sp?). Never thought about an IR connection but it makes sense since diabetics are often more likely to get sick or sicker then others. Interesting...

When I get the flu or a cold I do get hit hard with it. Last winter infact I got pneumonia( I had never had it before) and had it for 4weeks,literally so sick I was on the couch that long. I have never been that sick before. I work in a doctors office so I exposed to many germs on a daily basis and it usually takes me awhile till I will come down with something but when I do watch out b/c it will be a doozy. I take Vit C and use Airborne if I start to feel crummy. Usually that helps or at least holds it off a little longer. Sometimes I feel weird though b/c people will say "good grief you have been sick forever, what is your problem" Beats me,trust me who wants to be sick for a week or so. I wonder if it does have some connection to PCOS. hmhhhmmmmmm

I used to always get hit the hardest with the flu. A few years back I switched to eating all organic and fresh produce and I took Airborne at work during the flu season. Even though my coworker was hit with the flu and he was training me at my computer daily, I didn't get sick. This year I was under a lot of stress and we occasionally ate organic produce and I got sick twice in a month. I believe diet and stress (emotional/physical) play a huge role in how well your immune system responds to viruses.

Every year that I do not get a flu shot, I get the flu terribly bad...it hits me like a ton of bricks! Never thought about the connection however...very interesting.
