Thread: How soon after finishing prometrium should I expect my period?

Default How soon after finishing prometrium should I expect my period?

I took prometrium for 12 days in a row to bring on my period. Now it's the 10th day since I took the last pill. When can I expect my period? I thought I would get it by now. I have tender breasts and feel kind of crampy, which is how I always feel right before my period, but no bleeding yet.

I've taken prometrium one other time to bring on my period, and that time I started bleeding after I had only taken about 7 pills. Any thoughts?

When I take them orally, it takes quite a while to get af. But when I take them vaginally, 3 days after I stop af usually shows up.

I take Prometrium for 10 days and about two days later AF shows. But it may be the dosage that you were given. What did they give you? I have 100mg of the stuff but I thought that might be normal. If your dosage is lower it could be that it needs to be higher or possibly you need something else to bring on AF.

I am taking prometrium for the first time, 200mg for 10 days. Finished 6 days ago and still nothing...... kind of nice to hear others having similar experiences. Did any of you find it made you really sick? I am still nauseous pretty much all day...

I've never heard of taking it vaginally--how does that work? I'm assuming it's a different "pill" than the one I swallow...

    I'd love more info!

Generally, taking Prometrium or Provera to induce a cycle should work to bring on a period within 2 weeks after the last dose. It is not TAKING the supplement that brings on the period, it is the WITHDRAWAL from the supplement that mimics the body's natural process. If your cycle happens to start while taking the supplement, it generally means that you didn't really NEED to take the supplement, as your body was already in the process.

Prometrium (but not Provera) can be taken vaginally - just insert the same yellow capsule the same way you would insert a Monistat ovule. I would recommend doing this at night, or being prepared to wear a panty liner (remember, Prometrium is just natural Yam based progesterone in a peanut oil suspension).

Taking it vaginally will lower the chance of side effects, and will get more of it where it needs to get to (if taken orally, it has to traverse your digestive system before being dispersed systemically, as oppsed to being a lot closer to the organ it needs to get to when taken vaginally).

Also, taking either Prometerium or Provera to induce a period WILL NOT WORK to bring on a period if you did not have sufficient estrogen in your system to cause the uterine lining to build up at least a little bit. Some women will only get a period after they have done a course of estrogen supplementation, followed by a course of progesterone (while continuing to take the estrogen), and then discontinue both.

Default What to do if getting the period while taking Prometrium?

    Hi all,

I have PCOS and I want it to regulate my period, so I start taking prometrium 3 days ago. Today I just start spotting and had symptoms as PMS, cramps, meaning that I'm sure I'll get the complete AF by tomorrow.
I knew I was ovulating 15 days ago, I should have waited for the period to come naturally but I get desperate and took the prometrium....
Should I stop taking Prometrium now or take it for the 4 days that I had left?

    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,,,

I'm going to start my first clomid cicle after my period...

first of all why are you taking clomid if you o on your own, it is not shown to increase any chance of pregnancy in ladies that O naturally.

And yes i would stop the Pro. and get let your AF finish naturally.

can i ask you how you knew that you knew that you O'd, are you tracking your cycle with temps?

Yeah...Ashra, if you know you ovulated I would definitley not take the prometrium. It won't make your period come any faster, as you obviously found out. Prometrium raises your progesterone levels and after you take it for 5-10 days depending on your dosage, the absence of it is what would actually make your period show. So....it sounds like your period showed naturally, it wasn't the prometrium. I would stop taking it.

And like Rivka, I'm confused as to why you would take Clomid if you're Oing on your own.

Thanks. for the answer, Yes My doctor send me prometrium because I didn't get my period for the past 2 and 1/2 months. But the day she send it to me I knew I was ovulating because I had the EWCM, which is definitly very characteristic and different than my normal one. I use to take Birth Control pills and when I stop it I saw the EWCM and then have AF after 15 days. But after 2 months the AF stop coming, and came every 2 or 3 months , so my doctor told me that I probably have anovulatory cycles, that's why she send me the clomid. The truth is that I'm not sure how PCOS is my case. If I do a Transvaginal scan I see many cyst, but I'm not overweight and I don't have insuline problems, but I use to have low sugar ( not now) so I'm still taking Metmorphin.
It's my first time TTC, I;m a little confused about all this, but my doctor send me the clomid to start taking it next week and then do some blod analisis to see if I ovulated.....

    Thanks!

    Ashra.
