Default My hair is falling out!!!!! Help!

I have PCOS and Hashimotos (autoimmune hypothyroid). For the past couple of weeks my hair has been coming out at least 10-12 strands at a time. This happens in the shower and when combing/brushing.

I know 10-12 strands doesn't sound like much, but I have baby fine, thin hair and not a ton of it. So it is beginning to add up.

    Anyone have any advice?

BTW-I do not perm my hair or use a flat iron. I do blow dry in the mornings but use a low heat setting. My hair is highlighted maybe every 10 weeks (if that often). I condition my hair often (every other day) as it has changed texture and seems to be dryer than it used to (it was oily prior to diagnosis and meds). I use salon shampoos/conditioners that are gentle.

If you're trying to get pregnant there is next to nothing you can take. I think Yasmin has Spiro in it, which is why many PCOS'ers take it. Spiro is good if you have high testosterone levels. So it depnds on your hormone levels. Have they been checked? Since you're trying to get pregnant you can't take much. Maybe progesterone if your progesterone levels are low. I don't know your situation, PCOS issues so it's hard to say....

I have had good luck with GNC Hair, Skin and Nails formula vitamins which have lots of biotin in them, even more than in a prenatal vitamin.

I don't know if biotin is a risk while trying to get pregnant, but ask your doctor.

Just switching to sulfate-free shampoos helped me a lot. You mention that your shampoos are gentle, so maybe they already are sulfate-free (no SLS, SLES, ALS, ALES or SMS.) I was losing a couple of big handfuls a day, getting really thin, and I am back to my normal thinnish but no scalp visible hair now.

Jem, can you list some sulfate free shampoos that you have tried? Reading labels makes my eyes boggle.

    Sure!

    Salon quality:
Alterna products- LIFE Solutions line shampoo & conditioner (drugstore.com is cheaper)
ABBA organic products- when I'm feeling rich!

    Other:
JASON- many personal care products, some have SMS though so you have to check, but still better than SLS
Nature's Gate- this is my current favorite, their Awapuhi has really degreased my scalp without drying. I buy at Wegman's. $6/bottle
Avalon Organics- about the same $$ as Nature's Gate

    Hope this helps!
