    Default Cold hands and feet

Does anyone have a problem with cold hands and feet?? Or just being cold in general? I seem to always be cold. My hands get so cold that my nails turn purple! Sometimes I think I might be anemic or just have low iron. Ive havent been tested though because I hate getting blood drawn since I always pass out.

its definitly a symptom of thyroid and pcos (or at least sensitivity to cold). how's your circulation?

Thanks for the replies. And no ive never had my thyroid tested but maybe I should actually I think I need a complete check up. Ive been having so many problems lately and I never know if its just something with PCOS or something else.

I'm finding I'm far more sensitive to cold than I was before. I never even really owned a proper winter jacket, and now I freeze before it even hits 0!

No coat in Canada??? How did you do it? I almost died when I was there this fall.
I am always cold too...unless I am taking my iron regularly...then I am ok.
    Being anemic sucks...

It also seems that once I get cold I STAY cold for hours...I get chills and have to put on all the clothes I own...again, sucks

Well I had one as a child of course, but after that I just kinda couldn't be bothered. I was used to it and it never seemed like a big deal. I think it all depends on what your body is accustomed to. I know when I lived in the UK (South East) the most I wore was a sweatshirt.

I was like that for a few winters...but lately I have freezing. The other day I considered wrapping in a blanket on my way to the store (to get iron cause I was too cold)...I had the heat in the car up to 85 too...still cold.

I suffer with cold hands and feet all the time. I do a lot of sitting and am quite sedentary when it comes to exercise, save when I'm in college 2x a week. But I think it has to do more with poor circulation which is an effect of dealing with IR/Hypoglycemia/Type II diabetes.

I would definitely get your thyroid and iron levels checked. I used to be cold all the time, even during the summer, until I found out that I had an iron deficiency. Now that I'm on iron supplements, I retain body heat much better.

I feel your pain. I've always had extremely cold hands and nails that would turn purple. Sometimes while I'm typing on the computer I even wear gloves. I used to wear gloves while in school! I don't know what causes it and my thyroid has checked out fine, so that's not the cause with me. I also get the cold feet too, I have a lot of wool socks and always have my 'indoor shoes' on.

It's not something that has affected me only in recent years, even when I was a thin child in 2nd grade I had severe problems with cold hands. People are horrified when I touch them. My boyfriend also claims my butt drops below zero at night, which doesn't make sense since it is quite padded with warm blubber.

One of my Dr.'s mentioned Raynaud's disease or something to that effect, but I doubt that is my problem and so did she. My Dad has the same cold hands and feet....we just say we have warmer hearts

Good luck staying warm and I hope you figure out what the cause is!

Thanks everyone! My mom is coming in town next weekend and she is going to go with me to the doctor to get my blood drawn, as I hate having it done and I tend to pass out. They think I might have vasovagal syncope as I also pass out from intense pain and after getting certain shots (HPV vaccine).

And wearing gloves while typing sounds like a great idea since my hands are like ice as i type right now!

I was told it had to do with hormone imbalance. Weird hormones make it even more difficult to regulate body temperature than most women. *shrugs*
