Thread: any POSITIVE yasmin experiences?

  1. #1

    Question any POSITIVE yasmin experiences?

I'm switching off loestrin because it killed my sex drive and made me more depressed. my endo thought the higher hormones in yasmin would help with these issues, but from what ive read here, that may not be the case! now im scared to go on it. maybe i should go back on the ortho-evra patch despite the risks, since that seemed to work best for me...

    anyone have any advice?

I read a lot of bad stuff on here about Yasmin before I started taking it too. I was also kind of nervous to start it. However, I have a friend and she told me to ask my dr. for Yasmin before I even went to my appointment. My dr. actually suggested Yasmin since it works so well for PCOS patients. I am glad I took the Yasmin. Before, I started Yasmin I would have 4 to 5 periods a year and they would come with no warning. They would be super heavy (soaking through super maxi's in an hour, sorry TMI) and painful. I would have cramps so bad I couldn't stand up. I had horrible mood swings. I teach kindergarten and I would catch myself taking it out on my students. After I started taking it, I have super light periods that come regularly. I can predict down to the day when they are going to start. They are so easy, that I no longer dread them. My face has also cleared up tremendously and I no longer have major breakouts. I have been taking Yasmin for about a year now, and I love it. I have had a great experience on it. Other than a little nasuea at the very beginning, I have had no side effects.

Remember there is no one BCP that works for everybody. I would go ahead and try it and see how it works for you! Good luck and let me know if you have other questions.

I actually had a good experience with Yasmin. However, I am not so sure it was only the Yasmin. I feel like we found a perfect combination of meds to bring my testosterone levels down. After being on the Yasmin a year, I decided to come off to try and get pregnant. We have tried naturally since November and are about to start on fertility meds. But, the PCOS pain has gone down since everything normalized. Hair growth has reduced and much more! However, since I have normalized levels now, I have a low sex drive compared to before.
If you are concerned about your sex drive going down, I would try a low dose BD like Mircette or Othro-Tri-Cyclen-Lo. Unfortunatley, low doses of BC arent as effective for PCOS..however, it still is better than nothing and your hormones won't be SO out of whack.
I hope this helps! Good luck! You'll find the right medication for your body!

I should also add, that Yasmin did help with my other PCOS symptoms such as facial hair and acne. However, I was also taking Spironolactone which helped tremendously with the facial hair. Now I am just taking the Yasmin, because I was having tingling sensations in my feet so my dr. took me off the spiro to see if that was causing the tingling. I don't think it did, because I haven't been taking it since October and I still have the tingling. Sorry that was off topic.

I take Yasmin, and I love it. I was on Orthotricyclen before, and I wasn't happy about it, but no doctor offered me any alternatives, so I stayed with it. About five or six years ago, my gyno told me Yasmin would be better for my symptoms and possibly help me lose weight, and I switched.

The first three months were horrendous. But after that, my hormones leveled off, and I've loved it ever since then. I know EXACTLY when I get my period, my acne is fine, I think, so far so good. And yes, I've been on it for that long.

I went through "break" for a while but getting back to Yasmin was not a problem.

I had horrible experiences with birth control pills in general. Weight gain, bloated feeling, no sex drive, etc.... As a last resort my gyno put me on Yasmin. What a difference!!! No more weight gain, no more bloating feeling, my sex drive somewhat returned...

Acne was under control, no facial hair, etc... It was awesome and I loved it. I'm not taking anything now though but if I had to it would definitely be Yasmin again!

This thread is kind of comforting. I've decided to go ahead and try the pill (for the masking-of-symptoms effects) and I didn't want to go in not knowing if there was any type I should be avoiding or asking for. So thanks for this.

I've been on yasmin since I was diagnosed over a year and a half ago... I will say that my first period was miserable, but I hadn't had one in 8 months, so that's most of it. Also, it made me nauseous at first, but once I started taking it right before bed, that got better, and now I'm so used to it that I can take it whenever without any problems. It has helped me lose weight and my acne has improved quite a bit, so I would recommend trying it at least. The first month may be tough, but stick it out; for me, at least, it was worth it. Hope that helps!

You could try the Ring. I liked it overall, except I had moodiness (I have on all bcp) and yeast often (but I had it with IUD all the time too and still have after quitting ring). It made my skin beautiful, AF regular, and my head hair stayed put.
