Does anyone know if it's possible to develop an immunity to anti-depressants?
Is there any other reason that it might work for two months, six months, or even a year, and then for some reason stop being effective?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Yes, they can become less effective over a period of time. Also, if you start and stop them several times they can lose their effect. If what you are taking isn't cutting it anymore, she your doctor for a med check.

So does this mean that I have to find a new prescription every year? This has happened twice now, not including the three I tried that immediately made my depression worse.
What exactly would the doctor be checking for in a "med check"?

Anti-depressant poop out can be a sign of bipolar disorder as well.
A med-check usually just means a visit where you talk about the medications, side effects, how it's working, see if any adjustments are needed...
-diagnosed 1/2004
-treating with diet and exercise
-mom to 5 furkids, Patrick the greyhound, Gretta and Samantha the rabbits, Sophie and Rosie the guinea pigs, and 4 guinea pigs waiting at the Bridge.
-working on a PhD in American History
yes this can happen to alot of people and happens to me. i never heard of the bipolar thing, but it just so happens i am bipolar. my doc put me on 2 meds he said sometimes a combo might be helpful in lasting longer. but basically take advantage of the time you feel well with your medication and if it stops working then you have to try others. i know it sucks but what else can we do...
best of luck!

So I read about this blood test called cytochrome P450, or CYP450. Supposedly it helps you figure out which anti-depressants won't work with your system. Has anyone had this done?
