I had just read that Vaniqa was discontinued in Canada... I took a perscription to the pharmacy 2 weeks ago they said they didn't have any at their location and they filled it 3 days later... cost 35 dollars for a 30g tube.
I am wondering why/how it got filled - I have been reading into it for the last 20 minutes and i don't see anywhere where it says it is back in canada...
stumped.
-Maybe I got the price wrong... I will have to update this tomorrow.... Benefits paid for it and the reciept is in my car...
Planetchar,
did you find out any more info regarding vaniqa? Thats very interesting...hopefully that means it is available in Canada again!!! Please let us know !! thanks =)
I asked my doc about 2 months ago and she said it was not available here.![]()
It's possible that it was left over stock from over ordering. What's the expirary date like?
When I checked the Health Canada website, I couldn't find anything about it being available in Canada.
The Expiry is August 09. You're probably very right about it being left over. I am going to ask the pharm about it this weekend. I am going to ask them if they can get anymore... My perscription was for 200g and I only got a 30g tube becasue it would have been $250 to fill it all at once... I will let you know the update once I talk to them. My Dr didn't know anything about it being discontinued, but I was the first person he had ever written the perscription for so he wouldn't be the best person to ask lol. He had to look it up in his book when i asked for it. duh.
I stumbled across another forum that has a little more info about the discontinuation of Vaniqa in Canada. See here
It also appears that some people have had discontinuation confirmation from the distibuting pharmacuetical company. So bye bye Vaniqa!
As for the Outback Steakhouse
I found this statement on their website.
I feel for you. Years ago I felt the same way when they closed all the Olive Gardens. Thankfully I now live driving distance to few different locations so when I do get a hankering for their salad dressing, I can get it. It might take 6 hours, but hey it's better than not getting to go at all.
wow..i too went to the doctor many years ago with a ripped out age from an american magazine. missed when it must have been allowed here...and now it is gone again? rather disappointing to say the least. wonder why?
Well it seems kinda dumb to use the tube I got because my pharmacy is now out. The pharmacist called their supply company and they had confirmed what we had already known... No more vaniqa.
I guess the best we can do now is just keep our eyes and ears open for its return.![]()
It's kinda funny the way things turn out.
So many of us waned to try it but had no clue it was available in Canada, when it was available. Then the pharmaceutical company discontinues sales because no one is using it.
Maybe if they had used 1/10 of the advertising budget that the U.S. had spent when it was first released many moons ago, maybe just maybe they would have succeeded in Canada.
I hope whatever incompetent twit working at the pharmaceutical company that made this decision is fired.
I tried ordering it over the internet through an american site, but they won't send it to Canada.

My GP gave my prescription for this and I too was told that it is gone. Does anyone know any other creams that do the same thing?
If your insurance company will not reimburse you for the product south of the border, remember to keep your receipt for tax purpose.s Insurance companies might not reimburse because it's not on the list of covered drugs. If you need to purchase it outside of Canada, advise your insurance company, some if given the heads up will cover the cost if it's a covered med. Otherwise save the receipt for taxes purposes, the official prescription receipt and not the cash register tape.

Considering you live in Sudbury...does this mean you are one of the employees at the big mean evil tax building that is located there????
We have stopped trying to claim any other expenses(medical or otherwise) on our taxes as a few years back we had such a hassle with the tax department that we have concluded to stop claiming anything but incoming income....but I guess that's what the tax department hopes people do.
