Default does coloring your hair make it look thicker at the scalp?

I was just watching What Not to Wear and saw this lady with thinning hair. They cut and dyed her hair and it didn't look at thin (you couldn't see her scalp as much at the part of her hair). I am just wondering if coloring your hair would do this or is it just going to make it fall out more? I think my hair is slowly coming back at my part but if you look close enough, you can still see it. Do you any of you color your hair solely to make it look fuller at the scalp?

Yes Yes! Coloring def makes my hair look thicker. Hair loss or not, coloring coats the hair shaft making it appear thicker. I would recommend a dark shade (I use a dark brown) as it isn't hard on the hair. Also have it done at a salon with a high quality color. I think this really helps!

I find that when I have highlights and lowlights to break up the hair it gives it tons of dimension and makes it appear thicker.

Mind you I don't have this problem myself, so I can see how it would make your hair seem fuller and nicer but I have a relative with thinning hair and the more she colors it the more she is frying those few hairs she has right off her head! We try tell her to stop but she insists she has to...

Definately, I usually cover my greys with a semi-permanent and that seems to thicken the strands for a little while. I can't bring myself to touch the permanent dyes yet because my hair is so fragile and I'm lazy about keeping up with the color. The semi-permanent is less noticeable when it needs a touch up. Highlights/lowlights definately add dimension too.

My hair is thinning on the sides, and you can see it in my ponytail. I dye my hair dark. I was thinking about getting highlights so it won't be such a contrast between my light light scalp and my dark hair.

My hair is naturally very blonde (I hate it, anyone wanna trade?) so I usually darken my hair, which gives it depth. Then people think I've had highlights but it's the natural color of my hair.

I've always wanted jet black hair.....

sort of sounds like a good idea from what I am hearing. i used to dye it regularly and am tempted to do it again just to make my hair look fuller at the scalp

    Talking Yes

When you color your hair (darker) it plumps up the hair strand. Also, when you bleach your hair it breaks down the hair strand and makes it appear smaller.

I was told to highlight my hair by the lady that does my extensions she does a lot of hair replacements I miss my brown hair but hey she said the contrast between scalp and blonde hair is less obvious than with dark hair

Thanks for the link Kat. I was also thinking that darker hair would make your scalp show through a bit more. On the other hand, it also makes sense about what Cali was saying about bleaching it making it thinner and darkening it (less chemicals and coat) will thicken.
