    Default A Q. about Vitex

So, I've been on Vitex for a few weeks now, and I haven't really noticed anything.

I realize that Vitex can take three to six months to be effective, and all that...

but I was wondering how long most people were on it before feeling any results?

    Curious. TIA for any insight.

I've taken it before (about 2 years ago) and I never really "felt" anything but it did regulate my AF, much better than Met does. I have been on Met for a year and 1/2 and still do not have regular AF. I just about 1 month ago started taking Vitex again and still don't feel anything, but I am sticking with it. I only take 100 mg a day so I might need to increase it.

Kittykisses: Did it take one month or more to help with AF?

I'm really hoping it helps with my cycles...

I've been feeling better lately, but then again...
    I've changed my diet
    Lost a few pounds
Started taking cinnamon, flaxseed oil, and a daily multivitamin (in addition to Vitex)
Quit my job over a month ago (I'm letting DH support me, gotta love him!)

So... can't tell if it's the Vitex, or overall well being.

Then again maybe it's because I just really want this to work.

    Hello All...

Vitex has worked wonders for me, but it did take quite a bit of time. I started taking Vitex in July of 2007, and it took until February of 2008 for things to regulate. Although it took eight months, the results have been worth it. My last two cycles have been regular (one was 26 days and the next was 27). I *believe* that I have ovulated as well (lots of egg white CM on days 8-10 and a positive OPK on day 10 of my current cycle). My acne has cleared significantly as well.

FYI...I've also been using natural progesterone cream with the Vitex and taking a high quality pre-natal vitamin and fish oil capsules

Hi AnotherD, I didn't see where you mention your Vitex dosage? I had an immediate reaction to Vitex, within a day or two with breakthrough bleeding and that was 400mg capsules at twice in the morning and twice in the evening. Lasted a day or two and then some weeks after that I had a regular period after not having one for eons. Still trying to regulate my cycles.

    Good luck with it

I started taking it in Feb 2008.. I took 1200mg and had breakthrough bleeding on day 68 of my never ending cycle.. then I O'd (for the first time in along time) on CD 83 and I just got AF today so it worked for me.. I am however.. stopping vitex this cycle and I am going to try Soy if this doesn't work it will be back to Vitex for one more cycle and then I am most likely done TTC for 3 years cause of my Dh's job!! So good luck..

solange: 500mg a day. Am going to up it to 1000mg a day though because I'm getting depressed (CD19, and still no Ov...) So, I haven't noticed any cycle changes yet.... it's probably still too early for me, plus a low dosage... who knows. I'm upping it today... so hopefully something soon!

I started Vitex 2-29-08 and I'm taking 1600 mg I haven't felt anything. I thought that I would have received AF by now. However, I am trying to remain positive.

Where can you get Vitex? Can you get it from your doc or a herbal store? I have heard about this over and over. I really want to try it. I hate the side effects of the Provera!

I got mine from GNC. Of course, none had it locally, so I ordered it from the online GNC store... but other websites have it.

You can get Vitex, and most of the other herbs that are recommended on here for really great prices at vitacost.com. I buy almost all of my stuff from them.

I have a quick question about vitex. What is the best form to take (liquid, capsule etc...)?

I'm not sure. With most herbs the liquid form is more potent, but sometimes the capsules work better.

I'm taking the capsules with powdered Vitex.
