    Default Untreated PCOS

I have been dx with PCOS for about a year and a half. I tried Metformin, but I couldn't stomach it, so my doc eventually took me off. Other than BC pills, the doc didn't recommend any meds. I asked about getting a ovarian cancer screen, she said I was too young. Aren't I at risk for the Ovaian CA d/t PCOS? Shouldn't the doc recommend some kind of meds to help with the weight gain and other PCOS symptoms?

You can try alternative methods (there's a whole forum here for alternative medicines to treat PCOS) or maybe a lower dose of Metformin?

I don't know much about the cancer aspect, but I think the main risk is if you are not having a period for very extended periods of time and your body is just building up what it should be losing/shedding with a period each cycle.

We are more at risk for cancer if we don't have enough periods (AFs) in a year. The lining builds up and can be a risk for us. There are several articles on the Articles Board on cancer and PCOS.

Metformin was hard on me, too, so my doctor switched me to Met XR and I've had ZERO side effects from it. I also take cinnamon, which works well. Vinegar is something other women have tried, and there are articles on that as well.
