Antibiotics for Acne & Side Effects
Hi All,
I have been taking both antibiotics (Minocycline) and Metformin for 2 months now. After about 6 weeks, my hair started falling out a lot! :-( I am trying to figure out if it could be the Minocycline or the Met.
Has anyone taken antibiotics for acne, and noticed any side effects (such as hair falling)?

Hi
I've not taken antibiotics with met, but i am taking roaccutane (actually mine's called nimegen - it's a cheaper version) with met now. Is anyone also taking roaccutane with met? i don't know if it's coincidental or psychological, but i think my met s/e seem slightly worse than before. can anyone advise?

How long do you have to take the antibiotics for? If I recall, you're only supposed to take them until you stop getting acne...I took them almost ten years ago and they cleared up my acne for five years. I wouldn't worry about your hair....it should stop when you stop the med.

My side effect is that I don't metabolize antibiotics. They just build up in my system... Can you normally take antibiotics with good results? B/c I have no idea, but that could be related to hair loss I suppose. I ended up in the ER one time due to being slowly poisoned, which is how I found out about not metabolizing them well!

When I took antibiotics for my acne it made me feel very nauseous so I had to stop. No idea about the hair loss though, you should contact your doctor.

i dont like taking too many meds at the same time and since im on Met i went to my derm and she perscribed Azelex (it a topical cream instead of an antibiotic) and it cleared up my acne and has reduced any further acne problems

I was on minacycline for about a year, and did not experience hair loss. Although drugs can do different things on different people. I haven't heard of that as a side effect of metformin either, but you should probably ask your Dr. about it.
