Thread: BCPs and spiro

    Default BCPs and spiro

Anybody been on both? I'm going to go back on a BCP, but I wanted to try spiro for hirsutism.
For those on spiro, what is your typical daily dosage?

    Merci buckets!

I'm on BCP and Spiro. I take Microgestin (used to take Zovia and might switch back) and 100mg twice a day of Spiro. HTH!

A lot of doctors won't prescribe Spiro without some form of BCP since it cause birth defects. I have been taking both Spiro and Yasmin since being diagnosed in Jan. 2007. I am currently taking 50 mg twice a day of Spiro, but the Yasmin also has the equivalent of 25 mg of Spiro in it.

I've been on both for about 3 years. It's worked very well for me. My dosage is 50MG (I'm 5'4 and about 120lbs). I think its prescribed on height/weight and not the severity of your symptoms.

I'm on 100mg spiro with no BCP even though my endo is not very comfortable with my doing that because she said that if spiro is taken without a BCP it can cause birth defects in the baby if I ever get pregnant (I mean, come on, I'm 19 and I'm not sexually active or in a relationship so why is it such a big deal at this point???). However, the doctor I used to see who left my practice was perfectly fine with me just taking spiro by itself because she knew I was not sexually active or planning to get pregnant. So i guess the moral of the story is that spiro is fine to take by itself if you're not planning to get pregnant.

Most women get wild AF with spiro alone, that's another reason they prescribe bcp. For me, it got wilder the higher my dose. I was on spiro 100 mg daily alone with a copper IUD. My AF was wild, came every 11-17 days, but I tolerated it for perfect skin, no hairloss, and 30 pounds weight loss (8 sizes).

I just started kariva (BCP) and I am almost taking 200mg of spiro - will this help with hair loss?

what is Kariva? I think the tricyclics made my hair loss worse, but it's hard to tell.

I am on BCP & Spiro (for only a few months now)

I use Loestrin 24 FE - so far no problems and I get AF when I am suppose to!! (I am just starting my 3rd pack)
and I am only on 25 mg x 2 / per day of Spiro (& vaniqua) but I've only been on Sprio for about a month. I would guess my Endo would up it soon ....

    I am also on Met 500 1x/day, byetta 5 mcg x2/day

My endo says the Spiro / Vaniqua for too much hair can take 6 months to see any results ....

Femcon was the first type of BCP my first gyno put me on but I stopped taking it after a week because I woke up every morning extremely nauseous, vomitted often, and had no appetite.

I take Femcon Fe and Spiro 100mg per day. I just strated with Spiro. I really hope it helps! However, I've been taking Femcon for a month and a half and I am coming off of it ASAP! I have broken out with cystic acne! I've never had a major problem with my skin !

    Any recommendations?

I'm on Tri-Sprintec BCP and Spiro 100mg a day. I had such bad acne, and by being on both my skin is completely clear except for some old scaring. I stoped taking Metformin, and have lost 30 pounds pounds from being on BCP and Spiro, and Jenny Craig all together!!!!
