Red face Thin cyster with a questing on LH/FSH levels and ovulation.

Hello everyone! I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and is so nervous and scared! Just trying to make sense of the whole thing. My doctor told me that my blood work came back fine EXCEPT (oh how I dread that word) that my LH/FSH levels were in PCOS range. My question is- is it still possible to O with elevated ratios of LH and FSH?

Most (not all) thin cysters need medical help to O. Most of us have an abnormal LH:FSH ratio, which is one of the factors inhibiting ovulation in us. If you are trying to conceive, you'll want to chart your cycles (if you have any) to see if you are in fact ovulating on your own. If so, you're lucky! If not, you'll need help from a doctor.

Thank you! I just started charting my BBT so hopefully I O on my own. I am not trying to conceive at the moment but will be in the near future. It just makes me cry when I see horrible people getting pregnant without even trying and then theres us cysters who will probably need alot of help getting pregnant. I just pray that I can get pregnant at all..

so sorry you are dealing with this. it is very overwhelming. i have elevated LH at timed too. it actually can change from day-to-day. charting is a good way to see if you are O'ing. also, how often do you have your period? i have mine every 5-8 weeks(mostly 8 weeks) and i figured out from charting that i do O. also, do you have any pms symptoms before you get your period? pms symptoms are hormonal which ususally indicates that you O'd. if you are not O'ing then you'll need some meds and hopefully that will be enough to get you preggo. good luck!

Hey relka. So my LH level can change? I never knew that! I get my period every three months or so.. usually not longer than that. I do get some pms symptoms as well -- sore boobies is the main one. Thank you so much for your help!

Yeah Its All About Your Hormones Being In Balance. When Lh And Fhs Are In A Ratio Of About 3:1 That Indicates Pcos/irregular Periods

I didn't know that elevated LH was a symptom.... i just took an ovulation test and it came out positive.... since they test for LH elevation, i guess that maybe i wasn't ovulating. that sucks.

I can tell you that the month before I got pregnant, my levels were totally INSANE. They were at a 7:1 ratio----my LH was at 21 and my FSH was at 3. Sometimes the body just corrects itself....I was set to start clomid when I got my period, but I found out I was pregnant instead. Our bodies are so complicated.

Btw, I found charting to be soooooo helpful. It takes a lot of dedication, but it really helped show what my body was doing!

go to fertilityfriend.com and sign up - they have how/what to chart explanations on the site and are really helpful. You can also read the book "taking charge of your fertility" which is for women with typical cycles but teaches you about charting too.

    good luck!

Default Glad to Know I am NOT Alone!!!

Hi!!! I am new to this site and COMPLETELY CONFUSED on how to get around the site BUT when I read your thread I had to try to respond! Your story is EXACTLY like mine so I wanted to check how things are going for you! I am 25, married 3 years, my husband is 30. I am 5'7, 130 lbs. I had been on BCP for several years with still somewhat irregular cycles, but they were present. I stopped the pills twice and both times my cycles stopped completely. I didn't really care because I wasn't TTC. We decided to start TTC in October 2007 so my OB told me to stop my pills in September....WELL....4 months went by and NOTHING happened! No cycles, no ovulating (I tried the kits to test and charted my temp), needless to say no pregnancy. My OB tested my horomones but they came back normal so his solution was to tell me all the fertility options I had, which overwhelmed me, and scared me off. My DH and I decided we would just keep trying praying things would change. I asked the OB what was wrong and his answer was "These things just happen sometimes." Not an answer I liked! In July I switched primary care doctors and my new doctor was very concerned that I STILL had not had a cycle since October. She didn't like that my OB didnt have a reason for my situation so she had me see an ENDO. I went through all my symptoms with the ENDO and she was VERY confused so she ran a multitude of blood tests. Everything came back normal except my LH/FSH ratio so she sent me to have an ultrasound done. The ultrasound howed that I have PCOS which surprised her because I am thin. My husband and I want to wait to TTC till next year so in the mean time, my ENDO has me taking Provera every 3 months so that I will have a cycle. I also switched my OB because I wanted someone more aggresive. I visit my new OB (a female) in January and my DH and I want to start TTC in February. I am SOOOO nervous and SOOOO scared so I am glad to know I can come on here and chat it out with people in the same boat as me! My sister and all my friends have kids and most of them were OOPSES.....guess I wont ever know what that is like! Nobody really understands and my DH is as supportive as possible but this site seems to be the outlet that will help!!!

I balanced mine with spearmint tea, ground flaxseed, vitex, and sleeping in absolute darkness for 6 hours at least (darkness releases melatonin which supresses LH). And positive thinking! I know lots of sites say that vitex raises LH but for the most part it is more of an adaptogen which means it ll give you what you need and balance you.

    Hi,

I am new to this site, and i am very confused about my diagnosis and treatment. Me and my husband were married 2 years ago. We never tried aggressively, however thought it would just happen. Last year, i went to a fertility specialist (just by chance) and my FSH/LH ratio seems to be off. Moreover i have polycystic ovaries. So she diagnosed me with PCOS. My periods have always been regular. I was not too convinced with the diagnosis. I started charting BBT. I do ovulate on my own almost every month. I am very thin though currently, as i seemed to reduce around 15 lbs after my marriage out of no special reason. Anyways, i went to another doctor, who completely ruled out PCOS. My LH FSH were normal. Then i moved to another city, and went to another fertility specialist, who ran the tests again. Again the LH/FSH ratio seemed to be off. But the dr. said we cannot diagnose PCOS with complete certainty, however, she would remain suspicious of it. She put me on clomid 50 mg. I ovulate fine with it ( as i do even without it) But i am not getting pregnant....... Can anyone give me any advice what to do? Thanks a lot.

opal -- one of the main criteria for diagnosing PCOS is irregular/no ovulation; so I am also unsure of your diagnosis. If you're not getting pregnanat, there are many other possible causes. Has your husband had a semen analysis?

    Fruitsy,

did you lower your LH just using those things, did you just include ground flaxseed in your cooking, or did you take it as a supplement? Just wondering because thus far elevated LH had been my only symptom, and it looks like I may not be ovulating (I have only been charting for 2 months). I am very interested in controlling this in a natural way. However, the only thing I typically hear is to lose weight, my BMI is already in the healhy range, I have even lost 10 lbs additionally but that is not helping. Thanks for the help!
