Thread: Af after mc?

  1. #1

    Default Af after mc?

Well as i'm sure a lot of you know, I miscarried in August.
However... i've been sitting and waiting for af to rear her ugly head since.

I've seen 6 weeks quoted as the typical amount of time after a mc for af to show but that came and went.. still nothing.. nada.. zip.

Has anyone else found that they've ceased to menstruate after a mc? how long was it till you got af? When should I go and see a doctor about this and is it anything to be concerned about?

I'm not sure the exact time. I'm sure its different for everyone. I was told by my doctor 4-6 weeks after to expect it (I had a D & C so I don't now if that makes a difference). I told him I'd be in 6 weeks to the day if I didn't get it cause I'm just not interested in waiting it out for it to just happen. I want to be on a schedule so I can time things right for the second time. If you're ttc again it might be a good idea to get the periods started if you're going on 6 weeks. Just my opinion.

First, I am so sorry for both of your losses.

I don't know what to tell you about not having AF yet. I started EXACTLY 28 days after my first 2 miscarriages, and 30 days after my 3rd.

I would contact the dr though if you are concerned. My view is their job is to help us.

Again, I am so very sorry for your losses.

    So sorry for your loss.

Like Tara, my doctor told me to expect AF 4-6 weeks after the D&C. AF didn't come and 6 weeks to the day, I was in the Dr's office getting my Provera script. Just did 10 days of Provera and am now waiting for AF to hopefully show up. Next time, the Dr said I'll only have to wait 4 weeks for Provera b/c he wants me to wait two cycles before TTC again.

    Good luck.

I echo the previous posters. I was told 4-6 weeks after my D&C, AF should show. If she doesn't, I'm to come in for Provera to induce a period, and back to TTC.

Sadly, I fear my doctors will just cite the whole "hormones" and send me on my way. Given last time I went to them after 3 months of no af they told me to just wait it out.. gah. I hate my doctors so so much... I hate that I can't change because of the stupid nation health service in this country. Oh well.. if we hit 8 weeks and there's still nothing i'll go in and freak out at them..

You need to be an advocate for yourself, and if your doctors are telling you to wait it out then I would tell them exactly how you feel. It's been long enough and if you are ready to move forward, then your doctors should be also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Purple - You might need to get "ugly" with the NHS and your GP or gynae to get things started again! I had AF at 34 days after my D&E. If you m/c in August, you should be cycling again to clear out whatever build up is in your uterine lining... It's not good to hold on to that stuff and can raise your risk for uterine cancer! So, at 8 weeks, go in and hang out until they take you seriously! Dianna

I bled for almost 6wks after my 1st m/c so when it finally stopped I wanted to throw a party But it stopped at something like 5w4d (I *think*) & started again at 7wks.
I would wait until 8wks and go in because that give it a little longer to start, if your anything like me then AF isn't there at exactly 28days anyway.

I'm on day 75... according to my chart. STILL no sign of AF.. gah.
I only bled for the one day when I actually miscarried, after 2 weeks of spotting on and off. Now, nothing.. nada.. zip.
I don't even have premenstral symptoms so go figure.. sigh. I can't help but worry that it's done something and messed my body up even more.

Purple - Did the docs confirm that no fetal tissue remained after your m/c? You did have a natural m/c (no D&C), right? Perhaps you still have HCG floating around that is inhibiting the hormones needed to induce AF??? Did you have a scan or anything after the m/c or get jabbed for blood tests? Just a thought... Dianna

They did an u/s a couple of days after I miscarried naturally and confirmed nothing was left. Took blood as well but didn't give me the results so I can only assume it was normal.

I dunno... maybe I should go buy a hpt just to be absolutely certain and then go to the doctor again. Thing is, last time I went to them because I wasn't having periods they just dismissed me totally and sent me home. They keep doing it, I don't really know what I can do. Sigh.

Isn't there someone else you can see? I'd be pissed if my doc did that to me.

Not really no. In the UK you get ONE doctor and changing is a nightmare. There aren't any docs in a 2 mile radius taking new patients, believe me.. i've tried.
So i'm stuck with incompetent uncaring doctors but really, i've seen a lot of docs since moving to this country and they're ALL LIKE THAT! I don't know why, maybe it's the whole NHS thing or maybe i've just had ****ty luck.
