Zilla - how much (mg) and what kind (regular, extended release)? Are you staying on this dose or gradually going up to the prescribed dose?

I personally haven't had any problems with Met XR, just wanted to let you know that not everyone has the gastrointestinal problems.

I wish you the best on your journey to managing your PCOS

I have to take a half a 500mg pill 3 times a day for one week. Then in week 2 I have to take 1 whole 500 mg pill and a half pill with lunch and dinner. Then in week 3 I take a whole pill with breakfast and lunch and half a pill with dinner. Week four I take three whole pills.

I took it with some sauteed squash and pasta. I have to work at 4 so hopefully nothing too catastrophic will happen. I am also taking one levothyroxine a day.

Give me the scoop. Am I really going to finally lose some weight? I have solemnly sworn to exercise. yuck. I was thinking about mallwalking, DH wants me to look online for a bicycle too.

Well it has been I guess an hour or two. Nothing scary yet. I have a half hour drive now and then work. I feel like Alice in Metforminland. What did I eat? What will it do? Bigger? Smaller? Bad times at work and they will change my name to The Girl That Broke The Bathroom? IDK but I am reallyreally hoping it is a nice, quiet, uneventful, boring, and un-embarrassing evening.

    Dear Lord,
Please with a low fat cherry on top, please so not let anything scary happen tonight.
    love,
    zilla

I took my first dose 3 days ago. I took 500 mg of xr. I have had nothing but gas - and I will take that over the other side effects. I will be working my way up one pill a week until I get to 2000 mg. a day.

    Cycle 1/August 5-9/50mg Clomid/BFN - no O
    Cycle 2/September 8-13/100mg Clomid/- no O
    Cycle 3/October 4-8/150mg Clomid - In progress
    Using Pre-seed again this month

just stay away from high sugar, high carb foods and you should be ok, you may still have some gastro side effects but they will go away; every time you up your dosage you may notice them again but they do go away once your body gets use to the meds. I say that the met is worth the side effects in the beginning, i just upped my dosage from 500mg to 1000mg/day so i'm going through my next round of side effects, it sucks, but it's worth it. and i am losing weight, averaging about 3lbs/week. mostly because of the lack of appetite that i have with it.

    I wish you luck!!

Last night I felt so horrible my DH had to come get me at the end of the night because I was afraid to drive. I had an awful headache and was shaky and I don't know just weird. I came home and went straight to bed. We think I maybe went to long without eating so today I am going to try a snack every three hours.

sounds like your blood sugar was low. word to the wise though. when it gets low and you try to bring it up by drinking a coke or juice or something, eat some crackers with it. otherwise your body will absorb the sugars from the drink too quickly and your sugar will spike, making you feel like you are going to vomit.

Hang in there, you'll get the hang of it soon!

Hey Zilla--- I am in the same shoes, just started on met 2 days now. 500 mg once a day for me. The first day, I didn't get any side effect, but then yesterday on my 2nd day: I got a bad headache and this morning had a diarrhea. I take them with food because I know I'm super sensitive with meds and all.

Sorry you had to go thru that on your first night... You need to make sure you have eaten when taking the pills and all.

Hope it will get better for you- it takes time for our bodies to adjust!

hang in there... We are here for you and each other.

You are 100% right. That is exactly what happened. So we are going to look for things like little packs of fruit or nuts that I can carry with me. The doctors office just called and they said it was probably the yogurt I had.

We bought an exercise bike yesterday. It is glaring at me accusingly. I had some problems yesterday but nothing serious. I don't know if it was the cheese or ranch dressing.

i keep peanut butter crackers (you know the little packs) and protein bars at my desk at work and if i feel my sugar getting super low i drink a coke and eat some crackers but that's only on occassion now. ... i started my 1000mg dosage last week but i've been on it for about a month now. you will learn in about 1-2 weeks what does and doesn't settle with your stomach on met. hang in there. i tend to eat a lot of shrimp now and if i eat a burger i eat it plain with only one peice of the bread... it's like a double whammy...losing weight and helping my tummy. haha

Yes, the only problems I had today were when I waited a little too long to have a snack. I started to feel shaky and had some almonds and a latte then I was ok. Am I going to have to eat every three hours till I die? Because this is going to get old. I bought some Kashi Bars for my desk today. There were the only ones that mentioned being GI balanced.
