Thread: Nioxin Take Two

    Default Nioxin Take Two

Gotta say, pricey but my hair feels thicker and less loss after wash three. I was concerned with the clumps in the shower drain but I think I may have finally bought the right stuff.

My mother in law, who has thinning hair (but not PCOS) told my husband about Nioxin several months ago. He had a thinning spot in the back and started using it right away. Within a month you could see a bunch of new hair growth. I have always had very fine hair, and have always lost a fair amount every day, but I didn't have any bad thinning spots or anything.

Anyway, I then started using the Nioxin, and I CANNOT BELIEVE what that stuff has done to my hair. It is thicker, shinier, healthier looking, stronger, more cooperative to style... I could go on. My ends don't get all gross anymore and it seems to be growing faster. And if I rub my fingers around on my scalp, I can feel all the new hair. Also, I used to have to pick hair up off the shower drain every morning... now I bet I have to pick it up twice a month. I will probably use this stuff til the day I die. Highly recommended!

    Hi everyone,

I used Nioxin last night for the first time. I lost about 10-15 strands more than I normally do after I put in the scalp treatment and combed my hair. Has this happened to anyone else?

However, this morning when I styled it, I lost only about 10 strands of hair compared to the 30 I normally lose. I don't know.

Did you see results right away?

I think my hair has been thinning for the past 5 years or so, but I had such thick hair to begin with that I never thought anything of it. It wasn't this bad before either. In the past 3 months I have noticed a thinning spot at the top of my head and I'm getting thinning along my parts too.

I hope Nioxin helps. Going to see an endo soon...

I still seem to find the same amount on the brush post-shower, but my suggestion would be to give it a shot for a while and see what the overall effect is. I think the people who make Nioxin should really cut me a check for all the people I have introduced to their product! Ha!

Nioxin works for me. I am mixed race. My hair is very long and curly. But I get my hair straigten all the time.

    Hi Sunny,
Doesn't straightening damage your hair?? I used to get it done, but don't think I will ever be able to get it done again, given how my hair has thinned in the past few months. :9

Amberlyn, which Nixoin products do you use? Can I just use the cleanser and scalp therapy or must I use the complete system to see results?

The only one I use is the Cleanser actually, formula # 1. I tried the scalp therapy, but the smell of it makes my lungs tighten up! It's too fragrant for me. (Maybe I used too much when I tried it, who knows.) But yep, I've seen incredible results from just using the cleanser.

About how much does Nioxin run for? How long did you use it before you saw results? Are you taking it in conjunction w/ prenatals? So many questions!!! Nioxin tip appreciated!!

It's not cheap - we pay $35 for a pretty large bottle that lasts the two of us... probably two months??

I started to feel and see subtle results after a week. After about a month it was really noticeable and it has kept getting better from there. I'm not on prenatals, in fact I don't take any vitamins at all right now (shh, don't tell the doc)!

I actually found a value pack special at the grocery store. It comes with two LARGE bottles...the cleanser and the scalp therapy for only $27.99! I jumped on that deal. I guess I'm going to try and just use these two for now and see what kind of results I get. My thinning isn't obvious to others yet but I can definitely see a difference myself. My hair used to be sooo thick and it has gotten so much thinner, especially at the top. I really hope this stuff works.

I do have another question that maybe you guys can answer. I always shower twice a day because I feel my hair gets really oily. However, I don't want to waste my new shampoo twice a day. Does anyone know if can use a cheap shampoo and conditioner in the evening along with the Nioxn in the morning or will this defeat the purpose?

I think you'd be fine. The Nioxin works by removing DHT from your scalp. As far as cheap shampoos go, you might try Head & Shoulders. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the active ingredient in that can also help cut DHT.

Unfortunately, Nioxin did NOTHING to help me. I'm thinking of trying Ookisa, but it's even more expensive than the Nioxin. Bleh.
