After reading about its nutrition (lower in lactose, richer in protein, made with less milkfat) I picked some up some Greek yogurt today. SO YUMMY... and healthful too! It's a bit creamier and richer than yogurt here in the U.S., which why I love it soooo much. It tastes indulgent, but is totally safe.

My favorite snack is plain Greek yogurt, sliced peaches, cinnamon, and flax seeds.

So what do you like to do with Greek yogurt?

You can make tzatziki, a nice "meze" (appetizer-snack) with chopped or grated cucumbers, yogurt, salt, garlic and some olive oil (optional). I am Turkish, our food is almost the same with Greeks, so we have hundreds of stuff made with yogurt.

One other thing you can make is this: take some capsicum/cayenne peppers/paprika bake them in the oven or grill. Let them cool a little, then skin them, slice, mix in some garlic, salt, olive oil, chopped parsley and yogurt. Delicious, I would say. You can make this with aubergines instead of or in addition to cayenne peppers, and it tastes great as well.

We also make a drink with yogurt, very close to buttermilk, not as fatty. Yogurt, water, salt and a whisk is all it takes.

You can make wholemeal pasta, then add some salt, yogurt, dried or fresh mint and garlic(optional) as sauce. Healthy and delicious. Italians find it weird that we eat yogurt with pasta . We eat yogurt with almost anything.

Another meze: Grate some carrots, add very little olive oil, cook this in a pan until it gets yellowish. Add in yogurt and garlic and salt.

I don't know if you can find celery roots called celeriac in the US, if you can: Skin, wash and grate one average celeriac, mix in some chopped/grated walnuts, add salt yogurt and garlic(optional).

Boil some chicken breast until cooked. Let it cool off. Break the flesh into 2 inch long very thin strings. Mix this with chopped walnuts, salt, yogurt (adding some mayonnaise will do a nice trick) and garlic (aw, garlic in everything i know), top this with some walnut oil and mixed with paprika powder.

I'll add other recipes as I remember. Bon appetite.

You can use it in place of sour cream like for most savory dishes - or likely anywhere you use sour cream (if you are more interested in controlling fat and calories rather than carbs) you will not miss sour cream.

For sweet, I like it with strawberries and maybe some nuts and maybe sweetened with a little stevia. I have also done stevia and vanilla extract stirred in plus tiny bits of unsweetened bakers chocolate (warning pretty bitter) and nuts for a pseudo sunday!

I agree, meggowiggle, Greek yogurt IS healthier and better for those of us who are IR. Plus, it tastes better, just as you've said. I'm lactose intolerant but can eat Greek yogurt in moderation without too much tummy upset. Even my naturopathic physician was touting the benefits of Greek yogurt during my appointment with her yesterday!

I just picked some up too last week for my first time and I LOVE it. I was eating regular Organic but now switched to greek. I eat the Total 0%. I can eat it plain but to get my daily cinnamon, I add 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon to it. If I want something sweet, I'll add 1/2 pack of stevia.

I've been reading all the raving reviews on greek yogurt here and other places as well. I looked at some the last time I was at the store and I didn't buy it for some reason. I think I really need to try some now.

Does it have health benefits above those for just a decent quality "non-Greek" kind of yogurt? Please say more about this!

Basically, more protein, less sugar, per serving and usually has more strains of live cultures. Plus, most of the Greek yogurt I have seen in stores is organic, so NO HORMONES!
I love it with flavored stevia or fruit.

I don't know if anyone is finding the recipes I posted useful, but I'll add a few more.

Mix some washed, shredded spinach with some(a tablespoon of) olive oil and cook for 10 minutes. You can add diced and cooked onions if you like, mix everything into some yogurt, add garlic if you wish.

I don't know if purslane is common in the US, if you can find it (you can find it almost everywhere that there is soil and pick it easily), wash it thoroughly (add a few drops of vinegar into a bowl of water and soak the vegies in it for 10 minutes for better hygene). Just break the purslane into smaller pieces or cut it with a knife, mix into yogurt, add garlic and powdered paprika. Bon appetite.

Is greek yogurt found in the same spot as the regular yogurt in the grocery store??? Is there any brands names or just look at the labels???

I found greek yogurt in the yogurt section of Walmart. Good luck, the stuff is so good, it's common for me to not see any on shelf.

One of my favorites lately is really simple and delicious.

Black bean soup + ¼ cup greek yogurt, mix it together YUM!
