Thread: no exercise, no diet, can you still lose on metformin?

Default no exercise, no diet, can you still lose on metformin?

I tend to lose some weight when first upping my metformin dose - endro's orders - I would never misuse meds. But sometimes I wonder if it's really the metformin helping me lose or a blood sugar side effect. I'm not good at testing- need to get in the habit - she only wants me to do it twice a week but it hurts on fingers. Do you think the metformin helped me lose even though I'm eating horrible, and not exercising? thanks.

I lost 20 lbs and did nothing but take Met. Of course, I could have lost alot more if I would have done those things, but the Met alone did the trick for me.

Yes, I lost weight just taking met. I wasn't exercising the only thing that may have been different is met seemed to take away my cravings for sweet stuff.

When I first started Met, I lost about 5 - 10 lbs in about a month and a half or so with Met alone. I think it's mostly because I lost my appetite while taking it and would have to force myself to eat a meal so I can take the pills. I love to work out and exercise, but there's no way I could have done so because I had some difficult s/e with Met. So I would have to say that I would credit my weight loss to eating less as a side effect (loss of appetite) of Met.

I'm still eating lots of junk, still have my appetite. My pants are bigger but my weight isn't much less, I had lost about 10 lbs at first , gained 8 back but I think it's muscular due to getting massage therapy and chiropractic care.

Yesterday was the start of my 3rd week. I started metformin for the first time Jan.3,2008. I was on 500mg a day then 1000a day and now 1500mg a day. Yesterday was my first day on 1500mg and I was sick most of the day. I had horrible uggh diarrhea sorry for the TMI. After I took my last one last night I was in the bathroom a little not as much as I was during the day but I was nauseated all night and had hot flahes. As of sat I hadnt lost any weight. But I wasnt having any s/e until yesterday so maybe it is kicking in now. I have noticed I have more acne now on met I never had acne before it.

It's been almost two months since I've started and at first I started to gain weight, but now I feel like I've been losing a lot of weight. My clothing size is still the same, but I can definitely see bones where I couldn't before (my hands and feet and my clavicles are pretty prominent now as are the different parts of my neck and wrists) Hopefully for me this will keep up and I will finally go down a couple of sizes. I haven't changed my diet at all since starting and I have some very minimal exercise...most of which is just from daily life.
