Default Alternate Remedies for acne?? HELP!!

Ok so I just started Vitex about 3wks ago and came off of BC Pills and my face is already starting to break out again!
While on the pill my face is pretty much under control..I mean I get a pimple here and there but I already feel 3 coming
Is there something I can take to help control my testorone levels and help bring down these yucky acne?

I am now trying to resort to herbal stuff or other things besides BCP as I have been on it for YEARS and my body really needs a break to see how it will work without them!!

I would suggest trying saw palmetto extract. Start with 1 160mg pill per day if you aren't starting to see the acne calm down in a couple of weeks I would increase the dose to 2 160 mg pills per day. Make sure that whatever brand supplements you purchase state that they are standardized to at least 85%. I purchased my supplements from the Vitamin Shoppe. A 300 count bottle was $40 which works out to about $5 per month if you are only taking 1 160mg pill per day.

I too was on BCP for years and my acne was mostly under control during that time. I am older now and have decided to pursue a more natural way of healing. I am taking the insulite supplements, but after 9 months the acne and hair growth/loss were not where they should have been so I decided to add more saw palmetto to my regimen. I have been taking 320mg saw palmetto per day since Christmas and I can say that my acne has dissappeared. In the past 2 weeks I have only had pimple. I have also noticed that the facial hair is starting to come in a tad bit slower. I have also started to notice less hair falling out in the shower. Once the hair loss and hair growth are completely under control I am planning to cut back to 160mg per day.

A couple of things to keep in mind if you plan to use Saw Palmetto:

    1. Results will vary from individual to individual and it has often been stated that it can take up to 6 months to see the full effects of the Saw Palmetto supplement. Especially if you are looking for lost hair to return or for unwanted hair growth to completely stop.

    2. There is also the possibility that previously lost hair may not return if it has been a long time or there is damage to the follicle.

    3. If you are TTC or already pregnant you should not take Saw Palmetto because it reduces your testosterone levels.

    4. I personally do not know of any drug interractions. However, if you are concerned about taking this supplement you should check with your doctor or a qulaified naturopath.

    I hope this helps.

I had acne until a few years ago when I started drinking kombucha. It got rid of my acne right away. I haven't had a pimple in years now. The texture of my skin and coloring is really nice now. JME

Ditto on the saw palmetto...it helps decrease DHT which should really help with your acne. Also, keep up with the vitex!

I've had really good luck with both!

    Default Skinelle

Skinelle capsules and cream are very good for Acne. They are Ayurvedic medicines from Charak Pharma of India who are the manufaturers of Hyponidd. You can buy it online from different stores like ayurvedaforall, madanapalas, biogestica etc.

i've battled acne for almost 15 years, and my best advice is to be kind to your skin (even if it feels like the enemy at times). be gentle, avoid using harsh produts for "acne prone" skin and treat it instead as very sensitive. the cleaner and simpler the products you can use, the better. right now, my FAVORITE brand is weleda, but i find myself using less products and having better results--even something as simple as almond or jojoba oil can work better than the most expensive creams. and avoid soap or sudsing cleanser at all costs--it will strip your skin of it's delicate acid mantel and can in fact make your skin MORE oily. my skin is far from perfect, but it's improved greatly by just being kind to it. balance with skin, like life, is the key.

also, as far as oily skin goes, a good, food based vitamin b complex can be really helpful (i don't remember why, but i used to work in a healthfood store, and this was always our recommendation for oily skin--and it works!).

Does it have to be a 'natural' remedy? If not, what worked for me was gentle soap like Basis bar and a ton of benzoil peroxide on the affected areas. Also, if you where makeup, removing your make up first and then washing with the basis bar works well. I got this method from acne.org and it helped a lot. Anyway, sorry I don't know of any natural remedies that work but I definitely know what you are going through.

This won't get rid of acne, but I like to use Aveeno Positively Radiant Facial Cleanser. There's no abrasive, it rinses clean and doesn't strip your face. I've tried other ones, but they always disrupted my skin too much and I'd get pimples. I also have found Lubriderm sensitive skin lotion to be great for my face, does not cause me breakouts or irritation, and it's lightweight. My acne finally calmed down when I got onto spironolactone, a prescription med. a few yrs ago.
