Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssss....its so hard but I believe that it will help many of our symptoms.
I am non IR and totally addicted to sugar and carbs! OMG I try so hard to stay away but it never works, it is like I will kill for just a plain slice of bread! I could eat a whole loaf if I let myslef! Sometimes I wonder if I am IR? I have been tested but didn't get the actuall results, so I wonder if I am on the high end of normal. I have talked to my friends mom who is a nutrionalist and she was wondering why my dr doesn't have me on met even if I am not ir? SO, who know??????

I'm right there with you - I take a ton of sugar in everything. Also a huge fan of sweet tea. Did the glucose testing and I'm not diabetic, not insulin resistant. No signs of an "issue" but tell me that when i crash at 11 am everyday no matter what i eat, HA. I still take glucophage anyway.
I didn't realize how much I was addicted to sugar (& carbs) until I was told to cut out all "white" sugar (+ I had already begun limiting my carbs and trying to protein link). I'm so w/ you on just wanting to eat things like a saltine cracker or a cookie. I'm not IR, but my body is soooo sensitive to sugar and the white processed flour. So hard and frustrating, I'm not overweight and was already pretty healthy, having to give up easy, comfort-type food makes me sad (not to mention I feel sooo guilty when I slip - like I did last weekend). I'm hoping that with these diet changes and the traditional chinese medicine route I'm taking, my body will be able to get back into the monthly routine of AF & then "o."

I know what you mean. It is so hard to stay away from those darn carbs and sugars. At work that is all we have laying around and I try so hard to stay away. When ever I have a craving I try to just drink a bottle of water instead.

Used to also be a total sugar addict. A few years ago when I moved to Europe, I ate a lot less sugar because the country just has less sweet things than America. Now I like sugar -- but it's the salty snacks that I can't resist. Plenty of non-PCOSers have a sweet tooth; it can also just be what you are used to.
Thanks all for your comments. They've tested my IR but I swear there is something weird about it...I just can't go a day without feeling lightheaded if I don't have something sweet. I just don't want to make myself a diabetic. I never get a period either so maybe there is a connection. I have twin boys that just turned 1, we tried for years to have them and I just want to be around for a long time and don't want to kill myself with something as stupid as sugar cravings (I researched and there ar etons of cancer risks associated with sugar). Thanks again guys!!
I do have IR and have always been addicted to sweets and carbs. I have been on metformin for almost 6 months and I am happy to say that after 1 month of really focusing on "good" foods to eat with low GI I have finally ovulated on my own!! So, it is worth the work and the different foods.
Yes! I have IR and am thin for someone with PCOS, but I have the worst carb and sugar cravings. They come from nowhere it seems. I LOVE sweets of all kinds, and pastas, breads.. it definitely is an addiction. I have noticed however that sometimes sweet fruits can satisfy the cravings.
I am failry thin, but sugar seems to control me... if i do not have any through out the day i seem to feel so tired, and alost dizzy, I am not IR or anything i have been tested a while ago, so who knows if it has changed... i do have a history of diabetes in the family!
But i never thought that it would be related to this.
Ashpet - I'm the exact same as you, dizziness and tired without my "fix". I also have diabetes in my family. I hope that eating some chocolate each day doesn't cause me to get it, I don't drink coffee, pop and I eat well otherwise...so I figure hopefully it will all balance out.
Ugh! I'm trying a low GL diet, and I'm so off the wagon, it's not even funny...
I just found out that I have PCOS last week. My doctor has put me on aldactone for it...
I didn't realize that the whole sugar thing could be realated!!! I tried to do an Atkins diet once and started getting killer headaches because of my sugar addiction...I drink chai tea lattes EVERY day...sometimes twice a day. If I miss my chai I get a headache...
I wont even bring a cereal box in the house because I will take handfulls out of it all day until its gone. I have no control when it comes to sweets.
If I go to long without eating I get the 'jitters' extremely cranky and then a headache...I also have a tendency to faint. I fainted 6 times last year. Does anyone else have any of these problems??
